I want a GPS reciever with base maps for the channel islands with the ability to load about 5000 custom POIs in 5 categories, with the largest category having about 3000 POIs.

I also need to search all of the POIs within a category for a specific one by typing in the name - actually these will be numbers like 0820410; I would expect it to filter as I type in the numbers, just like searching for an address. Having found that I want to go to it on the map.

Are there any that will do this?

A TomTom will handle the POIs in this way, but I'm not too sure about the road coverage of the Maps.

My W&C Europe shows mixed coverage for the area, with some of the smaller Islands rather limited. I don't know if the Western Europe, or the UK and ROI, Maps fare any better.

Hi Richard,
Is that anything running TomTom and is it from a certain version? I have 5 on a PDA and that doesn't seem to allow it, unless you have to have a GPS signal to do it.

Will the TomTom load from csv, or is there a way to create ov2 files?

Can the POIs reside on an SD card?

Anyone know if any other will do it e.g. Garmin

Only the later Versions will have an up-to-date Map with enough detail.

OV2 Files are easy to create from CSV Files, The format is Long, Lat, "Name Text". They can also be Created/Edited on the Unit itself.

The POIs go into the Map Folder, wherever that might be located.

The Channel Islands are now included on the UK&ROI map version 815 which is for the dedicated navigation devices like the TomTom One or Go range. Whilst I have heard this map release will work with the latest PDA software, the version 7 navigator for a PDA is only available pre-installed to specific phones.
I don't think the Channel Islands were included with the Navigator version 5 mapping - Mike

Basic mapping of the Channel Islands are on all the version 8 maps of Europe but be aware that while the roads are accurate, things like one-way streets and pedestrian precincts are not identified, although I have submitted many of them through mapshare.
