Just downloaded a widescreen nissan splash screen from tomtom, saved it as a 24bit bmp and loaded it where the others are on my go 530. Turned the unit on and the nissan screen is there, but very small in the centre. The pixal size is 100x57 I take it it wants resizing, what size do you use for the go 530. thanks Bert

Just found out that the screens already on the go530 are 480x272 I will try that

I noticed the splash screens that were already on the go530 were jpeg, so I downloaded as a jpeg changed the size to 480x274 and it fits ok now, although the resilution seems crap!

The thumbnail picture on the TomTom site is 100x57. However, if you click on it, a larger version opens on a separate page. THIS is the one you want to download, not the thumbail.

The default startup and shutdown images on every TomTom I have ever had, have been .bmp files NOT .jpgs

If you are seeing bad resolution, I suggest you try resaving our image from scratch as a .bmp

The default names for a widescreen model are
splashw.bmp
suspendw.bmp
antitheftw.bmp
lowbatteryw.bmp

(same names for a small screen model but without the "w")

480x272 for widescreen
320x240 for normal

Thanks for your reply, when you connect to the pc and look at my go530 through explorer the splash screens are in a folder called photos and they are all jpeg. I down loaded the larger image as suggested above, and it is showing as a bmp in the same folder, now the res is fine, bert

When you go to Start Up Preferences, the second page gives you an option to change your current startup graphic. It goes to the 'photos' folder and you can scroll through the various .jpg's found there.

When you slect one, TT converts the .jpg to .bmp, overwrites your current splash(w).bmp in the root and, as a consequence, puts the selected one in its place.

I do not believe there is any function in the firmware to change your shutdown image; that's a bit trickier to accomplish.

Ah yes there's a new feature to change the spashscreen in the menu, isn't there. Damn clever these Dutch!
But anyway, you can still do it the old fashioned way and simply add the .bmp.

If it doesn't have a "suspendw.bmp" then just add your picture and call it "antitheftw.bmp" and make sure "warn not to leave device in car" is selected in the safety preferences menus

Yep........your last paragraph (about creating the shutdown screen) is what I was referring to as 'trickier'. Not quite as seamless as making the startup image.

I've tried to use a photo as a new splash screen. I've cropped it and resized it to 480 X 272 pixels and it's a bmp file with a bit depth of 24.

I have extensions showing and definitely have only one bmp extension.

Its in the root of the device with the other splash screens but when I change its name to splashw.bmp, I just get a grey screen, although the others work fine when they have the same name.

Can you post it up somewhere and link to it here, for someone to have a look at? (or email it to me).

Or... one way I've used in similar weird circumstances is to open one of the ones that DOES work in your paint prog. and then copy and paste your desired image over the top of it.
That way it should get saved with the original properties of the one that did work.
