Good Morning Everyone,

The Jukebox on the 940 I have only shows 100 songs and 4 playlists. Even though there are many more that on the device. Any ideas about how to make that work?

Also the audible software, (audio books), dosn't detect the 940.

I'v reported both to TomTom/Audible.

Tomtom support gave me advice on how to install MP3's to a SD card. Very Happy I expected they would give an answer to a different but related question, as they always do.

Audible sent me this note;

Thank you for contacting Audible UK

I am afraid that currently the Tomtom 940 does not support the Audible *.aa format which is a secure file to protect the publisher's copyright. We are constantly in discussion with device manufacturers in a bid to have as many players support our format as possible but I am sorry this isn't the case yet with Tomtom 940. You can, however, still burn your titles to CD or play them from your computer.

I have also kept a record of your contact and will notify you if the player supports our format in the future.

Kind Regards

Audible Customer Support

I don't have a 940 and I don't use playlists, but I certainly have more then 100 songs showing on my 720's jukebox, which I would have *thought* would be the same as yours.

And the audiobooks .aa format certainly *does* work on my machine, didn't yours come with a couple of short demo ones already installed?
But then you are actually saying "Also the audible software, doesn't detect the 940. " which is a different question again!.
Can you not just manually copy the audiobook files to the TT manually, or does the copyright protection get in the way (I never signed up for Audible so I'm guessing!)

Hi, have you had any success getting the jukebox on the 940 to show more than 100 songs? (I'm asking because I'm currently trying to find the biggest micro sdhc card I can find to pop my entire mp3 collection onto my 940, and I don't want to spend a small fortune only to find that it doesn't work....)

This is probably down to how the device reads the mp3 tags, I currently have 359 tracks installed on my 940 and I can see every one of them listed on the device with no issues at all - Mike

Mike is correct, I had put .wma files on there by mistake along with mp3's. Once conveted they where fine.

It is not possible to copy and paste audi book .aa files onto the 940 as the files are copy protected and require the audibook software to play them. There are sample audiobook files installed with the device which work. However at the moment it is not possible to play any other audiobooks on the 940.

Do you mean it needs the audiobook/Audible software to copy them?
Just trying to get my head round this....

It will only play the audio books supplied with the device, I have some books that I have used on the other devices for test reasons and the 940 reports an error with the file during playback, it refuses to open the books - Mike

Sure I can explain that better. And in answer to the question, you are corrrect you need the audible software to copy the books and also to play them. (I can only play them on the PC with the software installed)

When you open up the audible software you have to firstly activate the device you want to play your books on. This process completes the .aa file security process required to play the book on the device. (I can't do this activation on the 940, see the audible response to my query above). As the Audible software does not 'see' the 940 it is then not possible to transfer audiobooks to the device. For recognised devices this would be the process used.

You can manually move .aa files onto the device but they do not play on the device when you look to play them. As MikeAlder explained.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but the Audible technical support process uses excactly the same reporting and communication email formats as the tomtom service. Also as there is an exclusive link from tomtom to use audible I would propose that they are the same or directly related companies. (TomTom Home and Audible software also very similar). I would also propose that the security on .aa files is the same as the security on TomTom maps. In that it is device specific.

Thanks for the much expanded explantion, I think I get it now!

One last query... so is it JUST the x40's that are having problems? The older models can load the proper audiobooks OK?

I guess in short it's very like the maps/home combo.

The x20/x30 devices are listed as compatable on the audible website and in my research people with those devices dont seem to have any issues.

So just the x40 range until, hopefully, it is included in the audible supported devices. Audible eluded to that in their first line tech support reply.
