Experiencing problems charging the LiPol Rechargeable Batteries. If I leave the A10 unused for sometime, say 2/3 weeks, I am unable to charge the LiPol unit from the mains, or car cigarette lighter. The unit does not respond to the on/off switch. Satmap have already replaced one LiPol battery and the new one fired up immediately and accepted a charge. But one month later I have experienced the same problem and the new battery is not accepting a charge. I have replaced the AA battery cradle and the A10 works fine with AA batteries so the unit seems to be working OK. I will contact Satmap again to see if they have a remedy, just interested to know if anyone else has experienced similar problems.

I had used the A10 with the rechargeable batteries from February until August, usually on a weekly basis, without any problems.

Just to say that the Satmap customer service was excellent. I sent the old battery to them by post on a Wedensday and I had a new battery in my hands two days later on the Friday.

What firmware have you got installed to the device? - go to Settings/ About on the device to find this out - Mike

I make sure to unplug the battery if I am not going to use the A10 for a day or so and have not had this problem. I do use it on a bike so the back has to be swapped befor I can store the A10 anyway.

I hope I am not "teaching Granny to suck eggs" here, but I seem to remember reading that it will only charge if the Satmap is turned on.

I may be wrong of course Confused

It charges as soon as it connects and switches on automatically in the process.

Part of the problem with this device is that the off button doesn't doesn't really turn it off and even the lipol battery drains down after a couple of weeks. I found that out last Sunday morning when I grabbed the device and found that the battery indicator was red. I quickly put it on charge for 45 mins and got it up to 2 bars and then plugged it into the cigarette lighter while I drove to the start of the walk. Even though it was "charging for an hour" it didn't seem to gain any more charge, probably because it was drawing as much power as it was taking. The battery ran out half way round the walk.

As the 'battery drains when the A10 is unused' problem can be solved by removing the battery why cant a simple battery switch be fitted to the unit even if it cant be incorporated in the main power switch. I intend to try to buy a spare back and cannibalise it to incorporate a switch in series with the power pack. The battery will still drain slowly of course.

Mikehay's posting is very relevant. If a LIPOL battery voltage drops below 3 volts the battery will 'subsequently no longer accept a full charge and may experience problems holding voltage under load'.
While this is probably not the cause of your problem, I will be removing the battery or charging every couple of days in the future.
