Hello.
I have just tried updating the MaFt POI's on my i3 from my PC but part way through the automatic downloading process (at the start of erasure point) my i3 switches itself off!
This results in not getting the new files uploaded.
I've since tried & done a 'hard reset' which put everything on i3 back to factory settings, then tried upload again but problem still exists.
Additionally tried installing a different firmware but can not even do that as again I get the same problem of i3 switching itself off at the start of the erasure point as happens with the POI's.
Tried different USB ports & new Duracell batteries but still no luck.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Gary

When plugged into the USB port it runs on USB and not batteries.

What version of POILoader do you have and how many POI categories are you trying to load?

Hi Paul, Thanks for your reply.
I mentioned the batteries just to complete the full picture of what I've tried... I know weak batts can affect the i3 when in road use even when plugged into car power supply but wasn't sure about when on usb!

I have always used the POI's from http://www.MaFt.co.uk/garmin/ plus the Pocket GPS Speedcams. Currently this file is 3.33MB (265 files)

However the switching off problem is occuring when attempting to delete as well as upload files in addition to same problem when attemting to change firmware.

I would download and try the latest version of POILoader.

Then try a few POIs and see how it goes. Build up to 256 and then see if adding more and more causes the problem.

Also the facility to delete the POIs from the unit was removed from later releases of POILoader so i guess there might be a problem with it.

Thanks for replying Paul,

The size of the POI file downloaded from folder on PC to i3 shows as 3.33MB yet the new MaFt POI file only shows 866KB.
If POI Loader has not overwritten old files then would that cause a problem? (I:E Too many files)

I've tried using the Sat Nav today but it will not navigate or show the
map on screen. Only shows the street name/direction at top of screen and the bottom left & right of screen time/turn info.
After 5 minutes it switched itself off Exclamation

With both versions of old & new POI Loaders.
When trying to remove and /or install POI's the i3 switches itself of then a pop up message states:
There was an error communicating with your device. Please make sure your device is plugged in & turned on. If errors continue you may need to restart your device.

Appears problems started when loading poi's...
The POI'S appeared uploaded twice, firstly stating an uploaded figure of 66806 figure then again at a figure of 133612
(i:e double the 66806 amount)
Consequently unable to update or upload any amended, new poi's to i3 as it switches itself off at the 'erasure' point of updater process...
So
I've now removed my SD Card (City Navigator NT+ V8) and tried my old SD Card(City Select Europe NT V7).
Firmware Updates both manual, beta 2.82, 2.7 & auto webupdater 3.4 have both succeeded and worked on my old V7 SD Card!
Roadtesting the i3 with older v7 sd card maps today & now waiting for Garmin to advise on replacement V8 sd card...

Do you have a card reader for the SD Card? If so look for a folder called GARMIN\Poi and delete the file POI.GPI (and any other GPI file you find there). Then try the card again.

Hi Paul,
No I don't have a SD card reader. So unable to check the actual v8 card.
Garmin tech suggested i check the sd card also which gave me the idea of trying my old v7 card to get to this point!

Like Paul said, use a card reader (can be got for about a fiver) and remove the poi folder then use poiloader on the card rather than the i3.

Thanks for reply Adam,
Q1 Would removing the poi folder affect the mapping on the card?
Q2 Would a usb reader do the job?

Don't remove the folder, just the contents. No it won't affect the map.

Yes as long as it's is for the right type of card.

Nope, The poi folder was never on the card in the first place, once poi`s was added it was created by poiloader.

You should be left with

Voice <--- Folder
gmapsupp.img
gmapsupp.unl (exists on the pre-loaded memory card)

If the problem still exists after just being left with those file then it is something else (corrupt map file?).
