Also, as an incentive, maybe PGPSW could give a year's subscription or something to anyone that makes say 300 submissions or more? Obviously this is up to PGPSW, but it might be a nice way of persuading people to help.

We're not overse to such incentives but the management is the issue here. Authoring an entire set of submission tools and verification procedures for this device is a large undertaking. I'll discuss with my colleagues.

I'd also like to point out that I think this way of having data (set1 and set2, compared to the PGPSW way) is a lot more robust (think less false positivies as you pass under bridges etc) and it might also be nice to try and implement these kinds of alerts on tomtoms too. So this data might not be resitrcted to just the talex. I'm not sure how tomtom works, but can you write plugins for it? I'd certainly be interested in writing one if other people aren't Smile

Sadly not. There is a now unsupported SDK (support withdrawn as of v7) but this did not allow enhancement of the built-in POI alerting functionality.

Tis a shame as I'd have to agree that a POI alert system based on the full functionality available here is an excellent robust solution that removes many if not all of the false positives that others suffer.

I'd be happy to develop some basic tools and host them on a seperate site if you'd like. I reckon I could get something basic done over a weekend (nothing flashy, just basic functionality). My main worry here is spending this time only to find people aren't willing to help!

Are there any other popular gps systems with an SDK?

As pgpsworld said, management of the data is now a problem..

I started writing up a website that allows people to check and fix the Set1 data created by my program. Give me a couple of days and it'll be online... the set1 data generated looks pretty good, so hopefully most of the cameras wont even have to be edited. This is just a little experiment, to see how many people will help out. Hopefully it wont take long to process if enough people chip in Smile

Darren is right though, verification is the main problem here.

Just checking, once we load in the "custom" set of points, if we wanted we can revert back to the Novus set right?

I've still got a talex subscription from before they went bust and swapped between the talex and novus data many times, so there is no reason why you shouldn't just load whichever set of data you like to test and decide etc.

It's a shame because Talex do lag behind.

I had to take a detour yesterday because of an accident on the M4 and yet again a camera is listed here but I got no Talex warning of it :

It's a new bright yellow 'MONITRON' on the A40, Eastbound, just before the Polish War Memorial in the 50 limit.

I am running the Talex (not Novus) database downloaded Sun 3rd August 2008, before I'm asked.

I've been coding all day... here's the result:

It's really quick and easy to do cameras... a lot of the cameras are positioned fine by the computer and it only takes 30 seconds to manually do it by hand. Please give the tutorial a thorough read. If enough people chip in then we can get it done in no time, so tell your friends!

Any suggestions, improvents, bugs etc welcome Smile

I'm having problems:

I can see different cameras by 'Skip to Next ID' but I cant see any other cameras by going to my area and zooming back in.

Do we have to go through each of the 13,000+ individually ?

Yes, sorry, there's no option to do cameras in your own area. The program just randomly picks a camera for you to check... it would be a lot more complicated to allow what your asking.
