Hi All,

I work in law enforcement and in the past 3 to 4 weeks we have seen an explosion in the theft of Sat Navs in our area. No doubt this is being replicated across the UK.

Please people do not leave your Sat Navs in the car. You won't believe the number of people that leave them out on display.

Also do not leave in the Glove box or under the seat that is the first place where the thieves look. Wipe the windscreen after you remove it as an obvious sucker mark on the screen is a real tale tell sign. The theives will smash your window if it has a sucker mark on the screen looking for a Sat Nav.

If you absolutely have to leave the unit in your car then lock it in the boot.

Be safe or you may end up losing your unit!

shouldn't the title read ' More muppets asking to get robbed by leaving satnavs in car'

perhaps there should be a competition to select the best headline, perhaps,

'Rob me and I can help you get away' Laughing

even if locked in the they will still easily pull down the back seat to have a quick look.

few years ago when our car got broken into we got it all on cctv. 1st port of call: glove box, 2nd: under seat, 3rd: pull down back seat and look in boot.

just take it with you!

This has happened where I live also, (Nottingham)
3 sat navs stolen in 2 weeks by teenagers on bikes (2 or 3)
equiped with tools for breaking in and gloves
1st method is try the door locks using a screwdriver
2nd try to lever out door looks
3rd break window(s)

be suspicious of anyone looking in to cars as they walk by, they will come back later to take your unit.

park safely

consider buying a new unit with extra security features and smaller to make carrying it with you less hassle

Do not leave it in the car! and remove all traces that you have one, wipe the window if you have a window mount. tuck power cables out of sight, and remove any antennas in the window.

Mine was taken at 2pm on a Friday in full view of the house, I had been home 10 minutes and was going out again

Do not buy a cheap satnav off the bloke in the Pub, No buyers means no cash for the theives.

If your device has a security pin code USE IT! if it is stolen and someone buys it and cannot get it to work they will not be happy with the seller thus won't be so keen to buy another one.

be extra vigilant this time of year as thieves are looking for xmas cash and you could be a victim.

I hope this is of benifitt to all
regards
