The iGO 2006 PGPSW safety camera files.

I have found that the camera detection direction to be very wrong. Around my area (Birmingham - Cannock -Stafford - Wolverhampton - Telford - Shrewsbury), 30-40% of the cameras have the wrong direction of travel assigned to them.

Quite a few have multi directions set, even on dual-carriage ways.

This is quite a problem, as you are not then going to get the correct warning, the main point of using them.

The iGO does give you the option to very easily change it, but you have to either stop and do it or remember where the cameras are so that you can browse the map and then change them at home.

How do others cope with this?

Perhaps the verifiers need to try using the iGO software so it can be corrected over a period of time.

Surely other gps software uses direction of travel for cameras or will include it over time. I find it very good not to keep getting warning for both directions like I do on my Garmin units.

Hi MaFt,

As you know the files for the iGO are in a txt format. After making some alterations to the cameras on the iGO the txt file has not been altered at all.

The only file that has is called SpeedcamUpdates.spud

Is that file of any use to you. Its difficult using the iGO to tell which camera you are changing, as it does not show the camera number like the TomTom etc files do.

Or is there a way that you know that I could use to identify which cameras have been changed.

one way is to make a mental note, or on a scrap of paper (or pull over and send yourself a text message) of the road name / position then find it on the submission map.

or

drop a pin and make a note of the direction. find the coordinates of the pin and then find relevant camera on the submission map.

The Garmin supplied speed camera database understands direction of travel. Seems that direction isn't understood for custom poi's though? Does anyone have a solution?

Garmin & Navman reserve directional functionality for the databases they supply. Not possible for 3rd party suppliers to offer it sadly.
