oh i wasn't suggesting it was a scam, just strange it never appeared on your map on the camera section till after i reported it, so there must be a reasonable explanation, again Rolling Eyes who will hold their hand up and say they reported it ? my guess no-one

Received mine this morning. The envelope had been ripped open & was in a 'your letter has been damaged' bag - assume someone thought there was something expensive in there! Wonder if the PocketGPS logo on the front caused this?

Now displayed in the back of my Mini - thanks guys!

Oh dear! Mine came in a plain brown envelope, not even a smell of a fiver or three. Sad

Sorry but if you think your average RPU or Traffic Officer has time to pull drivers over for such spurious reasons then you're very much mistaken.

Having been one I can assure you they have much better things to be doing and many more pressing matters. If you have been subject to such then you were either very unlucky or there were was more to the story.

Just based on an anecdote from a friend of mine who's been pulled over twice in under a year for marginally breaking the speed limit. He says (not sure if this is his opinion or the officer's) that the statistics show that people with detectors are more likely to be persistent speeders and therefore become more desirable for police to stop as they are less likely to be caught out the normal way (eg fixed cameras which can be detected). It makes sense to me, but I've not seen any real stats myself.

And I certainly wasn't saying you'd get pulled over for simply *having* the detector - you would obviously need to be speeding at the time as most types of detector are legal.

Good old anecdotal statistics again! So the stoppers keep statistics on the people they stop for speeding - including ticking a box to say whether or not the vehicle mounts a detector. Or, more likely, they have detector detectors, so that they can shine their speed cameras at any vehicle with a detector and not bother with vehicles which don't have detectors.

Now there's useful! You are more likely to be stopped by the police for speeding if you are speeding than if you are not speeding.

Write it down, remember it and REMEMBER, YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST.

I very much doubt that these stats were collected by the police, more likely a motoring magazine. It's simply conversation - I'm not trying to prove anything to you. Even without any stats, it makes sense to me... At the end of the day, the detectors prevent the police from doing their job, so why WOULDN'T they find it annoying if everyone suddenly got them?

Hey, I'm not having a go at you! I'm having a laugh.

It's as believable as the police only stopping and searching people who are wearing ski masks or balaclavas.

I simply can't get it that anybody believes this stuff!! It's on a par with that anecdote about the Tornado whose pilot heroically and miraculously managed to stop it's automatic defence systems from blasting a poor unsuspecting traffic cop wielding a laser/radar camera on top of a hill in a low flying practice area.
