Anyone know if its possible to import tomtom poi files into igo8 pois.

Using iGo explorer beta you can convert TomTom ov2 files to KML files.

Simply copy the converted kml to the \iGO8\CONTENT\USERDATA\POI folder and restart IGo 8.
You can then manage the new POI group in the normal manner.

Download from http://inetcom.hu/mick/igo/iGOPOIExplorerBeta.zip

PoiEdit will also convert TomTom ov2 files to kml and many other formats, and it's free !

Me too. I'd been advised to go for iGO 8 but although I can get it to install on my iPAQ 2200 I can't get it to run. It just gives me an exception on starting up. I'm still waiting on iGO support to come back.

It's a pity TomTom have taken that attitude - it was the PDA users that helped it grow.

Linknet - does this mean that one can download the pocketgps speed camera ov2 files and then convert them to klm format in POIedit and put them onto the Igo 8 map?

Yes, but you can't use the icons that come with them, you have to choose from the built in icons.

There is a way to add custom icons and I posted a file to download but can't remember where I posted it Sad

I knew it was somewhere Smile

Convert your POI files to kml using POI-Edit or similar.

Copy the kml files to 'iGO8\contents\userdata\poi' folder.

Download this folder:

http://rapidshare.com/files/114572133/ui_igo8.zip.html

Unzip the ui_igo8 folder and copy it to the iGO8 root folder on the SD card giving 'iGO8\ui_igo8'.

Start iGO8 and go to manage POI and you should see your new POI's and new icons at the end of the default icons.

If you don't like the new icons you can edit the poi_brand_rect.bmp files but make sure you retain the alpha data channel.

Regards

Hi,

I've downloaded the ui files put them on my SD card and got my ov2 files and converted them using POI editor and put them on the SD card although I have no userdata\POI folder so tried creating that and didn't work.

My file structure on SD card is \SD Card\iGo8\Content\POI and in this folder at the moment is UnitedKingdom.poi

So my question is how the heck do I amend this all in one POI file, it's 2.35 Mb and as I say the above method doesn't work at all? Can someone please help out a frustrated iGo user?

TIA

======================
Fixed it, typo on a folder, doh Embarassed

you should be able to create the following:

Storage Card\iGO8\contents\userdata\poi\

then put the files here. restart igo8 and it will pick them up

if you want insert your own pois, (creating new user.upi file, or creating single kml files from asc, csv or ov2 files!!!), try this software, only have to choice icon, choice poi cathegory to insert, and repeat operations for all pois you need, and then you have:
or all kml you need or new extended user.upoi.
user.upi created, bust be inserted, overwritting esisting, into :\iGO8\save\ folder, while:
*.kml files, must be inserted into:
\iGO8\CONTENT\USERDATA\POI\ folder
then you will be able to see new poi cat. into poi of igo8 ;)
bye!!!
