Now how can I put this...............

I collected the unit and got it connected up, it picked up the satelites very quickly and all seemed OK.

Plotted a route home and it coped quite well. Not very user friendly to operate so I was running on defaults.

Once at home I opened the enclosed CD to have a look at what else was available - CD kept crashing with a C++ runtime error so that wasn't impressive. Give up on CD and put back in box.

Then setup the route to the mother-in-laws which I know is 104 miles in short route mode........... = "Memory Allocation Error" followed by another, then another as I acknowledged each one.

Cancelled that and plotted the route to work - that started OK, then after a few minutes the dreaded memory allocation error again.

Factory reset and started again only to be greeted with more memory allocation errors on some routes in between successful route planning.

Having spent a few hours playing with it I have these issues that also add to the overall dissatisfaction:

CD won't load (C++ runtime error)
Random crashing with Memory Allocation errors
Actual speed display very small (once found hidden in options)
Inability to easily load POI's (ala TomTom)
Not impressed with the gold on red text background
    Annoying American accent
    Very large power socket adapter
All POI's On or Off, (no independent selector)

Good points

    Quick aquisition of satelites (SirfIII)
    Solid build
    Holder grips top and bottom
    USB power connector

Depending on the outcome of the reported PGPSW SCD/Cameras venture I will just get a TT One XL for use as my SCD unit once my Talex subs expire.

I had a TT One v1 before I got a new car with built in SatNav which prompted me to sell the TT1 (mistake).

Hi Kremmen,

Before you take it back, Can you boot the unit back to the operating system and run TomTom software along side? or can you back it up and install TomTom software instead?

I have it all packed away now but I would be surprised if you could run TT software on it ?

It's WinCE so 'if' you can get to the underlying OS you should be able to install the PocketPC version of TT.

With M$ Active Sync (v 4.5) you can get right into the devices folder and file structure.

I think Teco/Becker might smell a rat if I went playing though.

My latest is to consider a TT1 v3 from EasyDevices. The cost of the 'discounted' unit is virtually the same as the Becker plus the POIWarner membership.

Being as I have no intentions of going overseas it's becoming an attractive proposition.

A god option, you have much better options for customisation then, using the 44x44 custom icons, .ogg file alerts etc etc

Not quite as easy as that unfortunately. I had a good look around the structure and nothing seems obvious.

I think the issue with this unit and many others is the fact that the maps will be £100 to update. You need to decide if you are happy to use the unit as it is then in a couple of years just buy another unit, or buy a Garmin/Tomtom for a bit more, keep it and get cheaper map updates.

Ive looked at the TomTom on EasyDevices and it will cost £98 where the Becker price is £58 can you get more discount from EasyDevices and how.

If you become a 'subscriber' here then you get additional discount at EasyDevices Very Happy

Which can save you the subs fee in a single purchase.

Stop Press:

Just checked and the prices quoted are pre VAT - not so attractive now Sad

Offers such as these will always have a very short validity period.

Is there any info on how to access the WinCE operating system on this device?
