pocketgpsworld.comHere's a new feature we hope will become a regular, a Deal Of The Day news item. We will from time to time bring to your attention 'must have' discounts on satellite navigation devices, accessories or software too good too miss.

In common with our ethos here at PocketGPSWorld.com, these are genuine deals that we have discovered in our travels through t'internet, they are not pseudo deals where we get a kick back or commission and we have no links with the retailers who we feature, just genuine bargains.

So, onto today's Deal Of The Day, this one comes from TESCO Direct, the online arm of TESCO. They have a Becker PND on offer today. With Full UK street level mapping and major roads of Europe, MP3 player, 2GB SD card, windscreen mount and 12v power cord it is being sold at £59.97, that's a massive £138.00 off retail price!

Becker use Navigon software on their devices and this model would make a very respectable entry level system.

Click the link at the bottom of this post to access the offer.

Hope I am not Hijacking a news post thread Darren.

But just to say it LOOKS (from limited research I have been able to do), as if it's actual Model Number is:

"Becker Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934"

I base this only on the fact that it is the only Becker model I can find that has "Traffic Assist Highspeed" emblazoned on it.

That's assuming Tesco's images are correct too of course.

If so, here's one link with more info on it - IF it is the correct one - DISCLAIMER, this is to give you a pointer only folks, I take no responsibility for Tesco's wrong info, if it's off.

Link HERE

EDIT (Nothing altered or added IN the original message - just to add this here following):

Darren, will this unit accept the PGPSW Database, before I start mentioning it to all my friends etc?

Thanks for the additional info. It 'should' accept our database if you install POIWarner. This is a third parry plug-in for Navigon based devices that enables custom POI functionality. More info here.

Well, I've ordered one.

At that price and looking at the reviews it seems a good deal. Hopefully I can load the cameras - we'll soon find out one way or another.

Thanks for the heads up Very Happy

There is a software update at becker.de along with a .PDF instruction manual to peruse.

What's the commission on 2 units because according to the Tesco website they are now out of stock ?

I'm just hoping I can get it working with the cameras here.

The commission is that if you get the cameras working (when you get them working even) then you have to write up a short install guide for other users.

I had a feeling there might be a catch Very Happy

Once I've got the unit (picking up Monday) then I will give it a go in virgin mode so to speak and then I will subscribe to POIWarner and see what that is all about.

I'm learning things all the time about this unit, according to the blurb I should be able to link a .wav file to the POI's so theoretically I should be able to have the individual speed speech files, assuming I can find some in wav format, otherwise I've got another job.

Then having done all that you will then announce that you now have the SCD ready that uses the cameras here !

Just go to This Page and download a set of warnings that you like (Liz is by far the most popular if you look at the poll that is currently underway)
The files on that page are in ogg format, once you have a set downloaded use Audacity to convert the ogg files to wav type - plenty of time to do this as the unit isn't due till Monday. A full set of files for Speed Zoned would take around 30 minutes to convert this way, Audacity can be downloaded from Here - Mike

From what I have learnt prior to picking up the unit later today, you need POIWarner to load any additional POI's, including the speed cameras. Current owners are reporting that there is no built in facility to add POI's.

Fortunately, the POI's that POIWarner requires are just a simple ASCII format.

My plan is to get the unit and give it a whirl first just to get to grips with it. Then I will subscribe to POIWarner and work out how that interacts with it.

Next stage will be to install just the 50mph Gatso's as I have 2 of them quite close to where I live that I pass every day that will do until I get it working.

I may need to slightly alter the 'description' field of the ASC or Navigon camera database to get it to display what I want but that is no problem as I can knock up a VB6 program to perform that job in seconds.
