Shortly I hope to upgrade from my old Dell Axim x50v to a new device - probably a HTC Tytn II from Orange (which doesn't include the trial of TT afaik).

What's involved in transferring to a new device? From vague memory I recall that I might need to notify Tom Tom that I want to move from one device to another? My existing TTN6 is an upgrade from TTN5 with new maps at the end of 2006.

I see that there are new maps available again - should I upgrade the maps before or after moving devices?

Ian

You should be able to get a new activation code from www.ttcode.com as more than 6 months have elapsed since your previous activation. A new map is an option to consider, version 675 is the latest map you can run on the PDA version of the software as it doesn't support the very latest maps - Mike

Why not look at getting the HTC branded version which does include the TomTom trial software?

You can't get it direct from Orange but expansys will sell you an TyTN II with operator subsidy. Often what they have on the website doesn't include all networks but I'm led to believe if you contact them they will put you together a deal for any network.

You'll still have to download the maps of course but under the current promo the full Europe map is only £40.

Thanks everyone.

My contract with Orange doesn't enable me to get discounted handsets, though the £380 orange price to me for the TyTn II is significantly cheaper than any of the non-contract TyTn IIs I've seen on sale - including Expansys (£450). I don't want to change my contract really as there is no set monthly fee.

But I will ask Expansys anyway - you never know!

can anyone help with this related question please.

My eten M700 on which TT6 and maps is loaded has gone belly up and I have replaced it with a HTC TyTn II with TT6 software.

Is it possible to use my existing and paid for maps with the new TT6 software?

I will be doing a hard reset on the eten to try and getting it going for sale so I will not be using the maps on two devices but would apprecciate any comments please.

Yes with caveats. The licence activation process allows a second activation on a different device after 7 days has passed from initial activation. And a third after 6 months. So long as you haven't installed on a second device and at least 7 days has passed then you will be OK.

Is is this for the benefit of the customer like, for example, with Microsoft Office, or Adobe Photoshop, - you can install on a desktop and laptop; it's allowed by the software licence?

Or is this simply a technical loophole that you can take advantage of, if not strictly correctly (legally)?

This it there to cater for situations where a user may have to replace a device as a result of a hardware failure under warranty or an upgrade. It is not there to permit a user to deploy it to multiple devices.

if you choose to do this and subsequently need an activation key TomTom won't help.

Thanks Darren - that's what I thought and I will of course respect the licence terms Smile

Many thanks for that Darren.

This applies to me as only the one installation since mid 2007 sometime.

I assume it's ttcode.com for me!!
