I've just been in the US and rented a car with a Garmin Street Pilot C330. I wasn't impressed with it except for 2 things, the dial for volume and the bean bag it attaches to to sit on the dashboard. That was great. I wish we could get something like it for the TomTom x20 series!

Try Halfords.

In some states it's not legal to attach anything to the windscreen so the rental company may supply this or it maybe a local thing. Never seen a Garmin advertised with a bean bag....

yes
my brother and my mum both bought a garmin streetpilot and this came with a beanbag with a non slip bottom and the correct adaptor so you just click it onto the beanbag
superb device
i have seen an aftermarket one which you can connect the suction device to it
cheers

Looks nice but I'm not sure it would work with the x20 series mounts, aren't they smaller at the base?

I can't say for sure as I don't have either a X20 or the beanbag, but on the page I linked to above it claims to be suitable, and this thread: http://www.gpspassion.com/forumsen/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=103327
suggests that it uses your existing suction mount on top of the bean bag.

I can't see where it claims to be suitable, and the thread says "Other than the diminutive mounts of the TomTom ONE and GO series it should work with any GPS system." Which makes me think it won't work with my 920. But it's encouraging and I'd think one would be made that would work with the ONE and GO series.

You've inspired me and I've found this:
http://www.amazon.com/Dashboard-Blackberry-Navigation-Comparable-010-10306-00/dp/B000ZSUQ9M

http://www.thegpsstore.com/Gilsson-Universal-Bean-Bag-Mount--P1712C172.aspx?UserID=5612250&SessionID=KngdaJWDuOQKIJaIHsim

I haven't tried the suction cup but it doesn't seem much better than the 910 mount. This thread is discussing the problems and someone is trying the Gilsson:
http://www.tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=5350&page=2

It mentions another alternative, the Nav Mat. On Amazon.com I found this comment:

4.0 out of 5 stars Nav Mat & TomTom 720, December 30, 2007
By T. Bradley "The Traveler" (USA)
(REAL NAME)
The Nav Mat portable GPS dash mount is all that it says it is, but for one exception. While the TomTom 720 can be used with the NavMat, the 720's suction mount stem is a tad short. This makes it difficult for the screen of the 720 to be tilted fully forward to avoid glare; the bottom edge of the screen does not clear the edge of the NAV Mat. There is no problem if a car's dashboard slants downward toward the driver. On my Honda Odyssey, the dash in front of the driver is a curved mound. Since the screen cannot be tilted fully forward on its mount, daytime glare obscures the screen, and I have to place the Nav Mat nearer to the passenger side where the dash slants downward to cleary view the screen.

And someone here:
http://www.tomtomforums.com/showthread.php?t=6012
says they had to purchase the alternative mount to use the Nav Mat.

See also this: http://www.gpslodge.com/archives/015528.php

So, there clearly are bean bags, it's a question of which is best and cost.
Hopefully these will be marketed in the UK at some time. California and Minnesota not allowing windscreen mounts has helped! (And the beanbag is the obvious choice for rental cars).

That's the Nav Mat, looks good but I'd need the alternative TomTom mount as otherwise it appears that you can't see the bottom of the TomTom.
Thanks
Doug
