Posted: Fri Dec 28, 2007 11:02 am Post subject: TT 520 - Camera's from PGPSW audible warning? |
|
|
I have just bought a TT520 and downloaded the PGPSW database onto it, shows all the mobile, redlight, gatso etc along my route, however the TT doesent bleep or alert me to the mobile sites, it bleeps when there is a redlight camera however.
Is there anyway of making the tomtom bleep when your coming up to a mobile site? Otherwise on motorway journeys, it means im having to stare at the tomtom every 30 secs, so see if theres a mobile site in the next few miles.
The mobile cam feature seems dangerous and a bit useless if there is no audible warning for them.
I have tomtom home v 2.1 and downloaded the home version, then extracted the files into the download folder and went through tomtom home to add "items on my computer"
Any help would be much appreciated as i am a tomtom 'newb'

Welcome to the forum, Please have a read through the FAQ page which can be found Here #1 and #5 are the ones you will need for setting this up correctly, although I would take some time out to read the others as you get chance - Mike |

I wouldn't bother with the TomTom HOME vertion, Most people use the OV2 database, (Speed Zoned), and copy/paste, using windows explorer, you can then use the voice warnings, instead of the beeps and bongs. Don't forget the WINDOWS EXPLORER backup, before you do anything else, all you need to know is at the link Mike gave you. _________________ Audi A3 Sline sat nav |

Sounds to me like you haven't done any setting up of audio warnings yourself yet and the occasional beeps you are getting are from the trial version of TomTom's own camera database.
If that is the case, you also need to look at #13 of those FAQs too
Once you've set it up, you can have specific spoken warnings ("Gatso ahead - 30 mph", "Mobile site ahead - 50 mph" etc.) instead of just bleeps. |

Just trying to add the voices (POI) to my new 520 but can't get them to show on the warn when near POI screen.
I've downloaded the .ogg files for all the cam's and placed them in my map folder (Britain and Island folder) and gone into the tomtom home app and removed the existing safety camera's that tomtom installs. But I can get the new POI's to show
managed to do this fine on a 710 a while back.
Any ideas what i'm doing wrong here ? |

When you go into Warn When Near the names of the Sounds are not shown if you have correctly named OGG Files present. When asked if this is the Sound you want, select YES, or the Device will freeze.
When you say that you can't see the Files, do you mean on the Map or in the Warn When Near POI List?
If you can't see them in the List, have you too many POIs installed in the Map Folder? _________________ Richard

can't see the cameras in the list when accessing the 'Warn when near POI' menu.
Seems to remember on the 710 I could see them all in there for all the speeds like 20, 30, 40, 50 mobile and i'd click these then assign the sound.
But can't even see the new POI for the speed cams.
Only got the standard POI installed , looking in tomtom home theres no more to remove |

Check with Windows Explorer and count the number of OV2 Files that are in the Map Folder. _________________ Richard

If you were using all of the Speed Zoned Cameras you would have a lot more than that. Should be 25 if I remember correctly.
Have you tried a Reset .... pin-in-the-hole? _________________ Richard

I also have just purchased a TT 520 and just downloaded the Pocket GPS database and it seems good so far.
I havent added spoken alerts yet - http://www.pocketgpsworld.com//modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=279419#279419
However, just by doing the basic download my Tomtom gives me spoken alerts when I am aproaching a camera.
Whats the advantidges of downloading more spoken alerts or have I missed something.

With TT Devices using TTS you have the option of using (well in my 910 anyway), 4 different types of warning.
1. Full spoken warning.
2. Brief spoken warning.
3. Sound effect.
4. Type in your own warning.
1 and 2 read the POI File name for the warning.
3 will use the built-in Sound Effects (known as bells and Bongs), or, if it is present, an OGG File.
4 lets you type in anything and then reads the text for the warnings.
Each has it's merits, and it's all down to personal choice. _________________ Richard

So having downloaded the simple database would I not be able to do 1,2,3 and 4?
At the moment I have 1 set and this seems to be workling ok.
Also is there anything I can do so that it warns me to slow down if I am going too fast.
Sorry am an ex Talex user who is just finding his feet. |

Yes, you can do 1, 2, 3 OR 4 if the 520 has all 4 options available.
There is an audible speed warning, but this is only useful if a) the map data is correct and b) if it has any data for the road you're on.
Because this data is not always present, or incorrect, this function IMO is not worth having.
It's found under Safety Preferences.
A visual warning is available in Status Bar Preferences where the Speed Display changes to Red. Show max speed next to speed, but this only works sometimes for the reasons given above. _________________ Richard
