Does too. It just doesn't show the file extensions.

Begging your pardon, you're right of course ... I was momentarily back in pre-OS X mode Laughing

Chris, the idea is to put the menu text together in whatever order you want for your device, this option of a custom menu also allows for certain functions to be accessed that the as supplied menu fails to deliver. See my reply to your previous post on the page before this one, I didn't know which application you could use to view/ edit the text though as I don't use a Mac (yet). In the previous reply I made I also informed you where to put the TomTom.mnu file in order for it to work - Mike

I've had a look and there is no such folder in my device. Come to mention it, at the root level of the INTERNAL drive within the device, there are 33 items (files and folders) whereas in the non-working backup I took from the device on Christmas day there are 37 items. Comparing my working and non-working backups, I appear to be missing folders called 'ttntools' and 'statdata' and files called 'install.bif', 'suspend.bmp' and 'ttn'. On my working setup I have one file the non-working one has, called 'mctx.dat'.

The suspend.bmp file appears to be identical to antitheft.bmp.

No idea what's going on or where, if anywhere, I could put the TomTom.mnu file.

Create a folder called "SdkRegistry" (without the "" but please watch the caps case as this makes a difference) put it in the root of the flash memory on the TomTom unit and copy the TomTom.mnu file into it then when the device boots you should have the new menu structure - Mike

I just added the files etc. to be able to use itinerary.

Now I need to know how to run itinerary. I've tried to "stumble" through setting up an itinerary, but just can't get past the first way point.

Any help would be appreciated.

TIA,

Dick

The way described below is the way to do it on the Device itself.

1. If you have an Itinerary already loaded Select Options | New Itinerary. Answer Yes on the next screen.

2. Select Add and then use whatever method you want to find a location: POI, Address, Point on Map, etc. Follow the Menus until you arrive back at the Itinerary Page with the first entry.

NB. If you are choosing a Point on Map, and it is a two carriageway road, make sure you are on the right carriageway.

3. The first entry will show a chequered flag. This is a Destination marker.

If planning a several points Itinerary the intermediate points are usually marked as Waypoints. To do this Select the entry and chose Mark as Waypoint. Double Yellow Arrow.

4. Repeat 2 until you have your complete Route listed.

You will now have a list of Waypoints. All that is required is to Select the last one, your Destination, and chose Mark as Destination.

5. Save the Itinerary, so that you can return to it, by Selecting Options | Save Itinerary. Name the Menu and you are back on the Itinerary Page.

6. Select Done and you will be asked if you want to Navigate there. If Yes then you will be taken through the normal Navigate Menus.

If there's something you don't understand, I'll try to make it clearer. Smile

Thanks Mike for your help

I had emailed tomtom they dont have a clue as to how there machines work.

Have created the file and folder, TomTom now works as it should with Itinerary planning and POI being managed.

I rename with an underscore in front when I want to change the menu back (_tomtom.mnu)

They DELIBERATELY removed the Itinerary function from the ONE 3rd Ed, so they're unlikely to want to tell you about it.

I was looking at Sat Navs, with the intention of probably getting a MyGuide 3100 in the New Year, but my other half pre-empted this by getting me a TomTom One Europe V3 for Christmas.

Frankly, as it comes out of the box, with no itinerary or means of putting more than one waypoint, it was to me at least, a piece of electronic junk. Furthermore. The “one free update” code did not work and I had to wait until last Tuesday to get through on the phone to be told to use the “file” “update” option. Still waiting for reply to an email last week though!!

I added the excellent SdkRegistry off here and got the itineraries working, then Tuesday, the map update V7.1561. WARNING! For me, this was a 5 hour download!! My itineraries were retained OK. Although it is the only Sat Nav I have used, I feel compelled to eat my previous words somewhat and admit it is a nice little bit of gear, albeit more expensive than some of the other offerings.

After reading this thread and the problems contacting TT, I think future contact with them is maybe best avoided, so I intend installing 3rd party speedcams. I understand from this thread (maybe wrongly) that this TT only accepts 100 custom POIs, but there are 1000s of cameras across Europe. Will deleting the TT Speedcams help? If so, which are the files to remove please?
I have also read that removing unwanted foreign voices frees memory. Again, which files please? (I am not an expert on computers!)

Finally, a little advice/encouragement for any other non-geeks who are wary of or do not fully understand the SdkRegistry modification for the itineraries. (I was extremely wary, but took the plunge because of the Christmas break everywhere).

I did not fully understand the business of changing the file suffix, so I took a chance (after full backups) and:

COPIED AND PASTED THE TomTom.mnu LISTING INTO MSWORD.
SAVED IT USING “SAVE AS”, FILE NAME TomTom.mnu , USING “SAVE AS TYPE” Text

In Explorer or My Computer, this shows the file as TomTom.mnu.txt

THEN I SIMPLY DELETED THE FINAL .txt (don’t forget the dot) AND COPIED/PASTED INTO THE FOLDER SdkRegistry PREVIOUSLY MADE.

NEXT SdkRegistry WAS SIMPLY COPIED INTO THE TOMTOM AMONGST THE OTHER FILES SHOWN IN EXPLORER/MYCOMPUTER. EVERYTHING WAS HAPPY EVER AFTER (SO FAR!) AND I CAN MAKE AND SAVE ITINERARIES AND USE MULTIPLE WAYPOINTS!

Apologies to the computer literate amongst you, but I am sure I am not the only one uncertain of file types and root directories and who are paranoid of wrecking their toy!

EDIT for one final comment on TomTom. I think it is unreasonable to sell an item to the general public that requires them to own a computer and to have a BroadBand Internet connection to bring the product up to date. It is also one thing for someone to borrow access to a computer, but to expect to borrow 5 hours of internet is going too far for most. Maps should be provided preferably on CD (yes, quite a few) or at worst on DVD, so even if the purchaser has to impose on a friend, that imposition is not too extreme.
There is no mention on the box of these requirements. Rather underhand IMO.

Just a piece of info. that people may or not be aware of.

TomTom state that there is a full postcode search function for UK and the Netherlands and the files can be easily seen in Explorer/MyComputer.

However, the numerical postcodes for most, if not all of the other Western European countries are there somewhere and work perfectly too.
I have checked France, Spain, Belgium, Germany and Italy, as I have addresses to hand, but it is reasonable to assume the rest are OK.

The only difference is that the 'other' Postcodes are really Area Codes, and are not so location specific as the UK and Netherlands Postcodes.

I would liken it to the older 4 digit Postcode that we had in early Tomtoms.

M-Tek,

Sorry! I figured that if the other info was OK to copy/paste I thought this one would be as well.

I tried your newest version, works great!

One question, when in "Itinerary Planning" a tour of "Traffic" is displayed?

Thanks for your good work and info,

Macaroon

PS I won't post a copy of your new one!!!
