Tomtom XL does not recognise TMC receiver

According to my Tomtom One XL instructions, I should plug my TMC receiver in before switching on. When I switch on, a traffic bar should appear on the right of the screen. But, when I do this the Tomtom just shows the normal screen. Is there a configuration menu somewhere?

First of all make sure the RDS connector is fully pushed home, it can take a considerable amount of force to push it fully in, if this isn't the problem try resetting the XL (pin in the reset hole, you don't loose any data doing ths), when the device switches on it should flash a message top right that the RDS device is connected (white writing on a black back ground for a couple of seconds) then you get the traffic bar down theb right side of the screen - Mike
