I have got a Garmin Streetpilot 2610 and would really like to be able to install the safety camera database.
Can this be done?
Many thanks!

The database download .zip additionally contains a.csv file containing all the locations. You should be able to import the data from this file using one of the Garmin utilities such as Gartrip.

Unfortunately Gartrip only talks to Garmins connected by a serial port. The 2610 only connects to a USB port.

I haven't used Mapsource for a very long time but can you not import waypoints into that from the .csv file we supply and then from there into the 2610?

Have you tried G7ToWin ? It now supports Street Pilot 2610 via USB. Try here.

It can only import from PCX5 *.wpt files, there does not appear to be a CSV import unfortunately. However, just discovered that using Gartrip to do the file format conversion, I can then use Mapsource to transfer them to the 2610.
Now just need to get Excel to restrict the list of cameras to my local ones as I only have storage for 500 waypoints.
Many thanks for the pointer to Gartrip.

I managed to load the Camera DB as waypoints (2160 is limited to 500 max though!) by using a tool I found that generates Mapsource files from a flat file. Had to write an Excel macro to convert the data to suitable output format and write it to a file, then use utility to convert to Mapsource map and load that into Mapsource.

A bit long winded, but could not find any other info on doing it at the time.

I also noticed that there is a Proximity property on the Waypoints which can be set to a certain distance and will warn in advance. Tried this but does not do anything. Anyone know if this works on a 2160? having to watch the screen for cameras is not always ideal!

G7towin still only does Waypoints, not POIs. This 500 max waypoints is a bind as I have to have a different map for different journeys, and load the waypoints each time.

Does anyone have details on how to set-up POIs? POIs are saved with the map data on the card, while waypoints are not. They are stored in internal memory (hence limit?) and there cannot have 500 different for each memory card, which I thought would solve the limit problem.

By the way, there is a quick way to delete all waypoints on the machine. Select FIND, WAYPOINTS then press MENU button and there is a DELETE ALL option which does it for you. I use this alot as I am always swapping my waypoints depending upon where I am heading off to.
