Hello

This is my first post and I hope I can contribute to this forum. As many of you I bought a GPS/TMC receiver from Royaltek and as a GPS receiver it is very good. Razz As a TMC receiver I have as you encounter problems with the reception so I thought I spent a couple of hours surfing the internet, to see if I can find a solution for this problem. Confused
To my amazing, I believe I have found the solution with the following item Shocked , 'car-aerial splitter (DIN-ISO connector) for GPS-TMC-Sirf3-Receiver' see link http://shop.thegadgetswarehouse.com/index.asp?function=DISPLAYPRODUCT&productid=558

But before I go ahead and purchase this item, I like to hear your opinion to see if this is a good solution? Rolling Eyes

Thanks

That looks like the GNS splitter, which generally seem to work fine. However, do be aware there are three aerial connector types used in the UK, and this is only one of them (and the least common in my opinion), so please only buy if your car uses ISO aerial connectors.

You can buy adapters to suit most common UK car radio aerial connectors. It has the drawback of making the rear of your radio look a bit like a plate of spaghetti (with lumps) - but there is usually room to squeeze everything back in!

I would check you get some sort of improved reception prior to squeezing it all back in - then check again - just to make sure nothing moved! With ISO connectors I tend to wrap the connection (plug and socket) with insulating tape to keep it connected - there never seems to be enough depth in the connector to feel reliable to me.

Try and get a cable with the correct connecters fitted to match the hardware in your car though, adapters are available but these do introduce a signal loss. Losses in an RDS-TMC reception circuit need to be kept to an absolute minimum, the signal is very weak to start with - Mike

Funnily enough I have just received today that item but I haven't had time to test it yet. I bought mine from www.cartft.com. Worked out a bit cheaper.
