Rightho, here we go here are my requirements, I accept that some might not be possible.

1) Be on a PDA
2) PDA has fast processor for quick route calculation.
3) Sat Nav software will integrate with my contacts on the PDA.
4) The PDA will allow me to store a GPS position against a contact for more accurate navigation to them as streets and postcodes are not accurate some times.
5) Be able to block certain roads from being used by the sat nav when calculating routes and for those blocks not to be lost when the program is closed ala tomtom.
6) Work in a truck power supply.
7) Have a solid but not large holder to fit on the window, it has to be able to withstand the truck bumping up and down like they do, but it has to be small enough to fit at the side of my heated windscreen in my ford focus.

Go for it, make me proud.

Ok as I am on a TMobile contract already, that could be useful, now is there any chance of the rest of my requirements? I particuarly want the one where I store a gps position against a client contact.

Hmm although its rather to big for my liking as a phone, as I wear jeans a lot of the time and have a small phone so it doesnt bother me.

Plus I like a big screen to see the map ahead on.

I do like the look of the Fujitsu Siemens LOOX N560 Pocket PC + GPS as a base PDA device. Then I could purchase Co-Pilot to put on there.

1) Be on a PDA

Check out the Mio P350, or the P550 if you want Bluetooth.

2) PDA has fast processor for quick route calculation.

The above have 400MHz processors.

3) Sat Nav software will integrate with my contacts on the PDA.
i-Go My Way automatically inserts any contacts on your PDA into i-Go. You can add more independently.

4) The PDA will allow me to store a GPS position against a contact for more accurate navigation to them as streets and postcodes are not accurate some times.

With i-Go you can enter co-ordinates and then save as a Contact or POI.

5) Be able to block certain roads from being used by the sat nav when calculating routes and for those blocks not to be lost when the program is closed ala tomtom.

You can block Roads or manoeuvres and these will be kept in memory each time you set a new route, providing you don't Delete route. But it's quite easy and quick to check the itinerary and 'avoid' the necessary points, when it will automatically re-calculate the route.

6) Work in a truck power supply.

I believe most units need an adapter to do this. Probably somewhere like Maplins.

7) Have a solid but not large holder to fit on the window, it has to be able to withstand the truck bumping up and down like they do, but it has to be small enough to fit at the side of my heated windscreen in my ford foc[us.

The Mio 'sucker' is easy to attach and hold well, usuallly have to insert a finger nail under the sucker to release it.

The i-Go software also has Lorry mode.

Worth checking out against other devices and software but it's all really down to personal preference.

if you are interested in using traffic data copilot will get this via your gprs connection and if you go for web and walk you wont get charged for the usage also you can block roads save your current gps position and also navigate to an outlook address planning is very fast. also you can set up your own routing profile if your with t-mobile allready i think this would be the best plan to use

Aww man I just ordered the I-Go software,
I think you'll be more than happy with it. I don't think I mentioned 'multi-vias' and the ability to 'optimise route'. Then there's the Fastest, Shortest or Economical mode. And, and, and.... I could go on.

If you go HERE and download you can start reading up on all the 'bits and bobs'.

If you are happy with it then don't forget it was Lost-Property who recommended it, if you are unhappy with it then it was pDennisN. :P

I'm about to order my own i-Go SD Card.

I was at my neighbours and, with you in mind, used his to set a car route and it routed down a narrow lane, normal route, but set to lorry mode it bypassed the narrow lane and went further on to a more suitable road. You'll have to remember whether you're driving your lorry or your Focus or you could end up having an interesting journey. Smile

However, iGo recommend you back the card up to hard drive. And if I read the instructions properly, if you change your device you can transfer the card over and it will run OK.

It will be interesting to hear jbentleyuk's views once he's used it several times in both lorry and car.

And don't forget, if you are a subscriber, you can get a download of pgpsw safety camera database for the iGo now. :D

you back it up to the hdd so that if you have to format your card then you can reinstall it to the original card only
you can move the sd card to any other device that will run iGO as the program and lience are locked to the sd card also you wont be able as far as i know get micro sd card for iGO yet they only go to mini sd so make sure you arent going to use it on a device that uses microsd or transflash

Is it possible to update stupid mistakes in the maps myself? For example the TomTom that I had that died, used to try and get me to do a right turn onto a bridge in Yarmouth where there is no right turn.
