I'm very interested in 'Major Roads of Europe' - any idea what level these go down to? Are we talking motorways, major A-roads, all A-roads (or their equivalents)?

To quote TalkingBollox

Re post code search: Surely the 7 chars e.g. SO20 4?? covers a fairly wide area and would not be as accuarate as using the full 7 characters per Niels' program?

It is my understanding that the last two characters of a post code signify an area of about 4-8 houses or one larger building. If TTN3 can give us this resolution then that will be fine for me!

Roll on the upgrades Laughing

Cheers

Alasdair - I don't know but I suspect the last character is the 4-8 house granularity. The penultimate one would more likely be a small group of roads.

TTN3 is perhaps more than some were expecting and there might be enough features for me to consider upgrading - don't know if I will for sure.

Traffic sounds good but I'd want absolute guarantees that I wasn't opening my GPRS connection to unlimited usage. Some guide to KB usage per hour would be useful and some auto shut off might make me happier.

As to Niels program, I hope it works OK with TTN3. I rather like the simplicity of it and as it offers FULL postcode support it's probably quicker to open Navigator that way than open Navigator first and then search for the postcode. I would ask that it open Checkpoint when it opens Navigator though!!!

Now that it's been announced, you're no longer under a NDA. Have you previewed a copy of TT3? If so when can we expect to see the write up please?

Technically I am. If I said No, I'm sure you wouldn't believe me! Soon, hopefully!

You mean 5 as opposed to 7 ? 5 is still pretty good providing you know the street name.

I've chased Mike the other day as he's writing the TTN T3 review. March hasn't been good to us for a number of reasons, Mike took a 2 week sebatical and I've just completed a house move, so we do have a lot of reviews in writing at the moment that aren't completed. We'll be getting these out as soon as possible.

It depends which features you are looking for on the Palm, I can tell you that Major Roads of Europe are supported in the Palm version.

Smile Great news, and from previous experience I don't think the GPRS usage for Traffic alerts will be that high, we'll have to wait and see.

I'd be interested to know who is providing the traffic data, Traffic Master, AA or RAC and are there any future plans to provide this using TMC?

Final thought, how will the upgrades be handled, lets hope that they have decided to use the existing activation keys, which would remove the need to return old CD's and ship new ones.

From tomtom

How can I upgrade?
TomTom will have a special website, where you can fill in your product code (the 15-letter code on the inside of your CD box that you have also used to activate TomTom Navigator). This code will give you the right to order the upgrade in our online web shop.
That is all there is to it. You do NOT need to send us your old CD-ROMs. You do NOT need to send us a proof of purchase.

Officially I can't say, but I wouldn't be too optimistic!

Yeah it's great! You'll see some pics in a few days of my desk! Mr. Green I'll check with Mike and we'll let you know.

How granular do you think the traffice information will be? Will it just cover motorways and major A roads for example? I'd be interested if it provided more localised information.

I can't comment on that, but if you look at LiveWire from Team Warrior it basically covered motorways, A roads and some major B roads.

I already have traffic-i on my Nokia 6600 for live trafficmaster information using GPRS, so the built in feature on TTN3 is no great enhancement for me.

It does use a lot of GPRS data if you leave it switched on for your entire journey. I use about 3Mb a week just on the traffic, but seeing as I don't pay the bill, I am not complaining. :D

Like most people here, I just want maps that are up to date rather than the hopeless maps provided with TTN2 :D

Is your traffic-i location specific - ie it knows where you are and where you're going and displays relevant info accordingly?
