Hi

I'd just like to make an enquiry with regard to downloading the updated speed camera files and using Winzip to open the files and place them into my Garmin i2 Streetpilot.
I have until recently been using the free version of Winzip to unzip downloaded zipped files, but the free version has now run out, is there any other way of opening the zipped files without using the Winzip programme or do I have to purchase their full product? If there is another way, could someone please give me step by step instructions, as I am not too proficient with computers.
I have also recently been having problems with placing the updated unzipped camera files into my Streetpilot i2, I know this because a local fixed speed camera does not show up anymore on my unit when I pass by its location. Can anybody suggest what I am doing wrong as my first download and installation went okay and showed this camera in its location? Embarassed

Try this..
Start - Run - then type explorer
Tools - Folder Options - File types
Press Z, then go down to ZIP
Press Delete

Windows should then be able to handle the ZIP file in the same way it handles .CAB files

I think WinZip v9.0 carries on working past the evaluation period. 10.0 + don't let you do this

Are you one of the many who now have Windows XP? which will unzip without need for any unzipping program. Simply in Windows Explorer either double click or right click the zip file name, then select "Extract all".

ALL versions of WinZip had a trial or evaluation period. Whilst you can go on using the software once the trial period is up you should buy a license to continue legally.

From the 8.1 WinZip License

Quote:
This is not free software. Subject to the terms below, you are hereby licensed by WinZip Computing, Inc. (“WCI”) to use one copy of WinZip, on one (1) computer or workstation, for evaluation purposes without charge for a period of 21 days. If you use this software after the 21-day evaluation period a registration fee of $29 is required.

.

Better to use on of the genuinly free programs.

or consider one of the many free ones - such as (these two I have used .. but there are numerous others)

ALZIP

From the web page The ALTools family of PC utilites is also 100% free for home users.

7 Zip

From FAQ
Can I use 7-Zip in a commercial organization?
Yes, 7-Zip is free software. You can use it on any computer. You don't need to register or pay for 7-Zip.
