You need to consider your journey length and the frequency of updates you'd like. I think 2 x 1 hour journeys per day with 15 minute updates amounts to about 1-2GB per month. I only remember that because I do get 1 GB free a month of WAP on my O2 PAYG card, which I assume is the same as GPRS, but I haven't got round to subscribing to TomTom traffic yet

The GPRS data does not come anywhere close to 1-2GB per month! typically 100KB/Hr with it running at 10 min updates is what I seem to average when using it.
O2 WAP is not the same as GPRS, and if you tried using an O2 Pay As You Go sim card you would be disapointed as it will not work with the TomTom server, this is due to O2 PAYG not giving true internet access. - Mike

Thanks. You've just saved me a subscription to TT Traffic then (maybe)

Interesting though, when I put my SIM card in, I get a "configuration settings" message which includes GPRS settings. My Nokia 6600 does ask what connection method I want to use, and I do get a G in the top left corner for a while, although that may be because I had it set to "when requested". I've now set it it "when needed" to see how long it stays on.

Is there an easy way of testing this out before I commit to a TT traffic subscription, or am I asking in the wrong place? I don't mind it costing me a bit, because when I do top up I get free texts

I split this from the ONE XL thread as it was drifting a little too off topic, we can carry on the discussion in this thread now - keeps things tidy.

Try and view this internet site forum using your phone as a quick test, we know for definite that O2 PAYG does not work with TomTom traffic, have a read through This Thread for some very useful information on what does and does not work for Traffic information - Mike

Thanks.

As for the subject of "testing it out", the thread you pointed me to reminded me of the "free month to PLUS services", which I guess is a good way of testing out GPRS connectivity out for new users?
