You should always update if you want the latest of everything....however if you take some time and read posts on this forum you'll realise that latest isn't always best.

mmmmmmm is all the software stored on the card or are the maps in the unit???

The software / firmware for the I3 is stored inside its own internal memory.

The maps / POIs / coice files could be on the memory card or on the internal memory or a mixture of both depending on exactly which I3 you have, theres been a few tweaks done by Garmin.

Audio version 2.50
What is firmware???

The software for things like the GPS receiver (and on on other garmin models the traffic receiver and the Bluetooth).

Also can i save all my information on my flashcard through my pc or do i need a flashcard reader.
I have just bought a micro sd adapter but all i get is an garmin folder and inside just voices file???

That would indicate that all your mapping is on board, rather than stored on the card

Oh nice one so how do i copy what is in the unit to a spare card.
