Posted: Sat Jan 27, 2007 12:32 pm Post subject: URGENT : How to install Navigator 5 ? |
|
|
Hello !
A friend of mine just got a MIO, and navigator 5 (which I told me was a set of files, including a setup.exe), and is asking me how to install navigator 5 on his MIO.
I remember from 2 or 3 years ago when I also had a PDA that I had to pass through ActiveSync (I think) to install programs from the PC to the PDA.
So this post is just to ask how to install the Navigator 5 on the MIO ?
Should we copy all the files on the PC and launch the executable from there ?
Should we use ActiveSync ?
Should we copy all the files on the MIO in a specific directory and launch the setup on the MIO ?
thanks for your help !! |

If the files are copied from someone elses CD's or have been downloaded from other than the TomTom site, he will not be able to activate the maps. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

I think he did a copy of his original CD's to his PC, and is now trying to install from the files on his PC ...
That's why he doesn't know how to launch it from the PC now.
Not sure he still has the CD's.
Reason of this post - What to do now with the setup located on the PC ? |

He'll still need to activate the maps, to do this he will need the product code which came with the CD's. If he has lost the code he will have to contact TomTom to explain the problem and I'm sure they will be very helpful. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

the problem of this post is not with activation codes or product key, but all about the procedure to install navigator from a PC to a MIO, if the CD content (navigator files) are on the PC.
I know there are hackers that use cracked maps, but everybody is not an hacker ... and as a note, I frequently see on forums people not really answering to the question, but better concentrating on suspecting the poster to try hacking the program, or installing hacked versions of software ... which is at the end very frustrating.
Thanks for your reply, so far. |

Perhaps you'd get better replies with more info about the 'files' he has. If he means he has what's left of the install from last time after running the CD then he's best doing it himself as activesync can see apps previously installed on computer then re-install to the device. But without the CD he's still gonna have probs when it comes to maps etc I think. If he has a CD image (ISO, NRG etc) or the actual files dragged to his PC then he might have a chance but either way it's not as easy as with the true purchased CD.
If he has the contents of the CD files then whatever is in the autorun text file is the first file he/you should double click as this is where the CD would have started when inserted. _________________ Tom Tom GO 720

I apologise if that's the impression I gave, I was really trying to help but it's difficult when you don't know all the facts about your friends problem. You say Quote: | I think he told me He just had the files on his PC ...
Probably do not have the CD's for some reason ... |

The probem has arisen because your friend copied his CD's to his hard drive and then lost the CD's and Product Code. Maybe if he were to post with the full facts people could more easily help him. I still believe the best course of action is for him to contact TomTom. He'll need an activation code and that's the only place he'll get it.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful. _________________ Formerly known as Lost_Property

Ok, thanks a lot for support so far ...
Will first try to reinstall the soft on the device, and then absolutely need to see with TOMTOM support how to activate (He should be able with the proof of purchase ... will see).
So far, it seems from what I've heard that the install need to be done from active sync ...
Or even maybe trying to re-burn the CD and try the install from the CD itself. |
