Garmin nuvi mount not very good ! (falls off atleast once)

Hi all,

got the garmin nuvi and really like it.
however, after putting the mount into the car on a cold start, the mount is put on as best as possible but the whole mount + uni drops after a while when the car warms up. I am sure its because of some expanding/contracting going on in the mount suction cup.

Has anyone else ever experienced this ? Mine falls off atleast once EVERY SINGLE TIME I go on a trip. its getting really annoying now and not to mention dangerous as it drops 5-10 mins into the journey

can someone advise of what to do ?

... and its not dust (cleaned it thoroughly). Both the glass and mount are ssqueaky clean.

Hi, I find that licking my finger and then running this around the suction cup helps it stay on for much longer

Although they look great, and apparently work very well too, there is a risk it will become a projectile if the vehicle is involved in an accident. Something for any potential purchaser to consider.

The alternative, although not cheap, are the Brodit mounts, used by a number of PGPSW members (including myself). Be prepared for a shock at the price though - but they are said to be the best.

you should try picking up your nuvi off the floor in the passenger footwell and gettin it back on the windscreen whilst doin 70+ in the middle lane of the A1! mine did it at least 3-4 times last time i went on a 240 mile journey!

I always used to have similar probs with my i3. The best solution I found was:

Make sure both surfaces are totally clean, a light smear of spit on the sucker, then put it onto the surface at speed not gently (spoge it on!), now put two fingers either side of the lever and press down until your fingers almost snap! Then with your spare hand flip the lever over.

I use a sticky disc on the dash of my passat by hands free kit. I never remove the mount except in extremely dodgy areas. My i3 mount has been attached to the disc over 2 months a good 4000+ miles now since I last removed it.

I havnt ever used the mount direct on the windscreen, puts the unit to far out of reach.

I have used from day one the round hard mount with the sticky side.
Fix it to a suitable are on your dash and the mount stays on that without any probs.
Clean the surface thouroughly with some spirits ie aftershave or similar.
Be prepared to have a very difficult job of removing it so, make sure it goes on correctly first time.

I have a feeling the amount of pressure it takes to lock the suction cup down doesn't do it much favours when sticking it to the windscreen. ie the weight of the unit will make it come lose quicker.

anyway, that's my view.
