How can I alter the detection tone when speed cameras etc are detected, as the one my ICN530 uses; which is the same as the loss of signal, is very difficult to hear and next to useless. Is there any way I can load a more audible tone into my Navman for this purpose.

Speed camera software used - Pocket GPS world

Many thanks in advance
Ian

This has been an on going issue.
I successfully altered the sound by editing the registry.
If you want to try it then you do so at your own risk.

You will need a program called registry workshop; search for it on the net and download the free 30 day demo.

There are two sets of instructions I posted on this thread, the second set is by far the simplest (duplicated below); I use the 'Startup' sound as this is already on the 530 but it is possible to use your own wav file (I've only tried 11KHz mono wav files - copy to the windows folder on the 530).

http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=43322&start=30

Using Registry Workshop,

File
Connect Mobile Device Registry

Navigate to the Key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\snd\Event

Open (Double Click) the value .DefaultSounds
on the 4th line down of the value data change the word default to Startup or other suitable wavefile in the Windows folder of the 530.
Before pressing OK go through all the blank lines in this file and add a space character to eack one. This should allow you to OK the edit without problems.

You should note that this will need to be repeated if the 530 goes through a cold reset eg the hidden battery switch is turned off or the battery goes totally flat.

Thanks Stanley, sounds a lot of messing about for something that should be easily done through a menu system, I will try your instructions though in the coming days.

Thanks again

Thanks Stanley

Well no to be honest I actually like the 530; I can say it's always got me there. Having owned the unit for quite a while I've come across a few minor annoyances but I can't find anything else suitable to replace it.

I'm tending to point out the faults in the hope of shaming Navman into fixing them but I'm not holding my breath. Odd thing is with all the money they must spend on hardware design and marketting, you'd think investing in the software would be obvious.

I agree with you, I have had mine for several months too and also invested in the T1 module which works very well.
When I first got the ICN530 I had endless problems with it crashing with the European maps installed on a Sandisk 512MB SD card, which is very annoying when your in France heading out to Belgium (My wife is good with maps fortunately Laughing )
However, I found that was my own fault, because I had formatted the card in FAT32, once it was done in FAT and the maps reloaded the unit worked fine.

Hopefully NavMan will look into the few software bugs and sort them in the near future.

Thanks

Maybe, if all forum users was to send emails off to NavMan, then just possibly they might iron out these short comings in the software.

Wink or then again they might choose to ignore us all Crying or Very sad

I agree, I suppose they should check sites like these since we are effectively a free software focus group. Also many potential customers will check here before buying so you'd think they'd want iron out problems quickly.
There was a thread here for posting bugs etc. but it died pretty quickly.

One problem that doesn't get mentioned much is that the 530 gets very confused should the signal drop out. I seem to remember my old Tomtom doing quite a good job of extrapolating your position by assuming you'd be on the same road, moving at a certain speed, whereas the 530 thinks you hyperspace onto random roads. I can't tell you how much fun I had with that in London last week with all the tall buildings!

I know exactly what you mean; it’s a pain in backside every time you go out of signal range (Tunnels etc) and like you say TomTom always assumed you were travelling along the same road @ the same speed and maintained the route quite accurately.

Plus, it beeps indicating the presence of a lurking Gatso, just to annoy you still further Laughing

If you wanted something that was easy to use and at the same time custonisable, why did you not buy a tomtom ? I got a free navman 510 with my last car, but still bought another tomtom as I found after afew days the navman was rubbish compared. There are equally gullible people on ebay that will buy the navman for the same price as a ttone. The only place that the navman scored was the european maps were much cheaper.

Just tried this myself... not as frightening as it seems!

Jus' couldnt live with the default 'non-such' sound from Navman any longer.

I have the N20.
All now working well except that instead of the wav sound that I want to work with my POIs has been changed to a very short strangled sound Crying or Very sad I have searched the files on the Device (In Windows) and find that there are at least fifteen different wav files installed, but only three show up in the Sounds Admin screen in POI editor. On the bottom of this screen is a 'Default' button - don't know what this does but maybe I have pressed it at sometime 'cos the sound is what is described in the various wav files in Windows as "Default'

Anyone know how I can get rid of that warning and replace it with any one of the installed POI warning sounds Question

Selecting that file in the Sounds Admin and saving it does nothing. The Default remains.
