Can anyone help but I have a small and annoying problem with my TT Rider. every time I open the small panel for access to the usb 2 and charging port the sd card literally 'falls' out and wont stay 'home' in the slot at all. This means I cant use my rider in the car and have it car powered??? Took it back to Halfords and they said they havent got anymore in stock and wont be getting anymore as it is now obsolete and is being replaced soon. have been offered my money back. Has anyone had problems with the SD card slot and does anyone know if the rider is being replaced. If so I may get my money back and wait for newer model any advice greatly appreciated, cheers :D

can you rotate the sreen on the Rider? If so, just place the unit upside down.

It was an rather stupid decision to install a SD card slot facing down.

Take the money! Read this forum and you will see that this will be the first of many problems you may/will have with the unit.

IMHO the Rider was too flawed for me to live with for the 3 years that I would have expected to own it. For that reason I got a refund after just 2 weeks. I don't regret doing that.

I'm now waiting to see first reports on the Garmin Zumo 550 before taking the plunge and buying another system.

hi, I wish that was the only problem I had with my rider, from new it managed to get to the middle of France before the cradle pins drilled holes in the rider contacts. Anyway, back to your problem, Sorry if this is a stupid question but have you pressed the card right into the slot until it "clicks"? It will then lock into place until it's pressed in again.... hope this helps. 8O

The problem with SD card slots is that they do not have a locking mechanism. You can simply pull the card out, no need to press it in first.

I wonder if there are different types of SD slot then? I use SD cards in my Ipaq and TomTom Rider and they both click and lock into place after being pressed in against a spring tensioner. They have to be pressed again to release them. Anybody else having SD fitting problems?
BTW, I've just installed a Kingston 2GB SD card to my Rider and it works fine with both TeleAtlas and NavTeq maps on it. The card is currently selling for £17.99 if you shop around on the web. It doesn't seem so long ago that I paid over £30 for a 10mb CF card for my first digital camera. Keep those prices dropping!
Merry Christmas :D

I have a RIDER and with the amount of testing I do with it, the SD cards are in and out like a fiddler's elbow. I have no problems with the SD card remaining in position and I have used the device extensively in both m/c and car mounts.

As regards the 'locking', it isn't actually a lock; it is more like an 'easy eject'. You can push the SD card in until it clicks but it is then possible to pull the card out again without pushing it in again first.

That's what they make you believe. In reality it is not true. you can pull them out just like that. They are only held in the slot be the spring power of the slot contacts. If that gives in then the card falls out.

Thanks for replies, I got my money back, over £300. Now I see Riders going for just over £200, don't know wether to get another one or wait. Is it right TOMTOM are producing a Rider2 improved version or not??
