I have a Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox, PocketPC2, TTN2 with TomTom custom mount and wired GPS in my Volvo S80. It seems there is a knack to doing things in the right order when I put it in the car.

If I get it right, it works a dream. if i get it wrong it can really screw things up.

The right way seems to be:
1 turn on ignition
2 wait till the GPS has got a fix (usually only a few seconds)
3 power on the Loox and/or start up TomTom
4 put the Loox in the cradle
- bingo!

The wrong way includes:
* putting the loox in the cradle and starting TomTom before the GPS has got a fix
* putting the loox in the cradle with TomTom started before the GPS has got a fix
* putting the loox in the cradle and and starting TomTom after the GPS has got a fix.

These and other variations have required anything from a soft reset to a complete reload to get over a fatal error. One time the map got corrupted (or that's how it seemed).

Generally, I have quickly learned not to rush it and everything will be fine. If I follow the trusted method then it behaves solidly and reliably.

I'd be interested if anyone else has experienced anything similar. There is nothing in the documentation that gives guidance in this area.

We have heard before that the Loox is very peculiar, especially when it comes to serial port timing.... Glad you found a working solution...

I always have trouble starting my Loox with TomTom. Always have to reset a few times, so I'll try this to see how it goes.

I think it is probably enough that the GPS is sending data. It doesnt need to have a fix as long as it is sending status messages.

Once the thing is working, there is never a problem when I switch off the ignition, e.g at a petrol station, provided I leave the Loox on and connected.

The other problem with the Loox is that the screen wont light up in the dark if it has been off for a while. It has to be turned on in a brightly lit room first, or you have to get out and turn it on in front of the car headlights.
