I live in Strasbourg and have only tried reception once so far. The green dot was present but I am unclear if this just means FM reception or if it means it has picked up an RDS/TMC signal. I travelled into Germany and didn't have any traffic problems so I haven't been able to test it under real traffic jam conditions.

I would be interested in whether it should pick up any station with RDS/TMC or if TomTom have somehow restricted reception to certain stations. I couldn't find any info on this on the TT site, so any info would be welcome.

Currently it picks up any station *without* RDS/TMC as well.. having the green dot is pretty meaningess.. to find out if you have TMC information you need to go into the traffic menu where it will tell you which station is being picked up.

You need to do a little homework to know which stations and frequency actually transmit the data provided by iTIS Holdings in the area you are located, in the UK its very simple, if the station name doesn't say Classic FM (or the frequency doesn't corespond to one of their allocation) then its scanning a dead channel that will not provide data - green "light on but no one is home" - Mike

Thanks for your replies. The ITIS Holdings site is UK-oriented and I haven't yet found anything on France and Germany. I'll keep looking.

But the way it has been implemented without detecting the RDS/TMC signal (this comment probably reveals my ignorance of what it possible) makes this less than satisfactory.

Ive been thinking about the RDS-TMC.

It currently costs no less than £55, and thats on a good day.

Well. TomTom Traffic costs £27 per year.

That means i can get TomTom Traffic via GPS for 2 years.

I also have 1Mb of download a month on O2, so i shouldnt exceed that, even on a daily usage, so that wouldnt cost me much.

So what are the benefits of the RDS-TMC over TomTom Traffic??

Well the TMC discussions have all gone very quiet, very limited availability, can any of the existing TMC owners/beta testers say if they are happy with the service or not. Should we all wait for the TMC units to arrive in our christmas stockings ?

The post below is exactly my very thoughts, now T-Mobile provide unlimited GPRS access for £7.5 the dialup solution is cheaper, and possibly more reliable.

One final thought, with the increased competition, TomTom may offer the GPRS traffic service for free in the future ? ?

Well, this unwitting beta tester is in the midst of a row with TomTom over the fundamentally flawed product and the woefully inadequate support delivered by their email helpdesk.

I am about to email the supplier of my "unfit for purpose" TMC receiver and beg for a refund.

To quote someone from another thread: Its is cr*p, it doesn't work, don't buy one.

Does that answer your question???

DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE!

They don't work & until Tomtom get it right keep well away.

Well originally I was looking forward to the release of this product and now it looks like it is a lemon. Tomtom should pull their finger out or at least offer a full refund plus a little bonus.

For what it is worth...I tried the Garmin Nuvi 310D with traffic...didnt work. I waited for the TT TMC...doesnt work...Garmin Nuvi 660 released with new TMC aerial...doesnt work.

To cut this short...bought TT OV2 (TT Two) Europe and use GRPS for traffic. Travelled down the M6 last night (last day of school hols - Sunday night) AND...TT Traffic works a treat.

So if you want free (read doesnt work) see above...if you want traffic...use TT Traffic.

Have now received RDS/TMC from EasyDevices.
Set up in house first and got information on temp traffic lights on a route I put in to test it. Could not see what radio station this had come from though, assume Classic FM.
Can someone please tell me how I get to Traffic preferences on My Go 710 please?
