Hi,

I recently purchased a iPAQ Hx2490 and afterwards, Destinator 6 (D6) navigation software. When I installed the D6, it would load the initial welcome screen and then freeze the Hx2490. I did a hard reset of the Hx and removed all programmes, reinstalled D6 and no difference. I went to the Destinator website and they say that D6 and Hx2490 are compatible, in fact, they sell the Hx with D6 preinstalled. I have been in contact with Destinator support and they sent me Destinator PN, which is the older version of the navigation software. This works fine and will use the D6 maps. Obviously, I would like to use D6 software as well. The last message from Destinator was "contact HP in order to make an "Upgrade of the ROM Storage" of the device". What do they mean by that?
Is there a means of changing the memory allocation on the Hx?

All help appreciated.

I don't have a complete answer to your query but I had similar with Navman years ago. I eventually discovered that by starting the Nav software with the GPS device off then switching GPS device on again, followed by configuring the connection, I never had the problem again. A shot in the dark but worth a try.

Regarding the ROM, consider it a bit like a Windows Update but it will wipe your whiole device. Perhaps a look at this might help http://www.htcwizardweb.net/book/print/118 its for HTC devices not i-paqs but the principle is the same.

And remember you'll lose all your data. If you like the settings and files you currently have and want exactly the same again I recommend Sprite Backup http://www.spritesoftware.com/ Look at it like Norton Ghost for PDAs. I'm pretty sure it supports restoring after a ROM upgrade but check first.

BUT!!!!!! Remember that if you use Sprite to restore your EXACT settings afterwards then you may re-encounter your initial problem. Before you Try the ROM upgrade, do a Hard Reset add the Navigation software first and see if it works (backup with Sprite first or you'll lose everything).. At least then you know that its something in your settings that's screwing things up. If that doesn't work do the ROM upgrade then install nav software first to see if that works. If it works post upgrade but pre-reinstall it was the ROM. If it works pre and post ROM upgrade but only falls over when you restore with Sprite its somewhere in your settings and you'll have to reintroduce files and settings one by one manually. No point re-introducing the same probs post-upgrade :-) Sprite will still be useful because once you get back to where you want to be you can create a backup for future use.

Hope all that makes sense. I'm on the verge of confusing myself! Laughing Out Loud :D

And I just re-read your post and you've already gone the hard reset, pre-ROM upgrade route so ignore those bits. Note to self: Drink less wine before posting.
