Most of this has already been covered, but just to recap...(as I understand it)...................
Couple of things that I missed first time round,
1 Pre Installed camera base..(do I delete that in favour of my paid subscription on this site ?)
2 Faster Launch
3 POI categories up to 100
4 Far more colours
5 Motorway signpost displays (?)

"What's New and Improved compared with v5 (in order of "appearance") ":

Lanches faster, 10 seconds versus 30 seconds

More colorful icons (65535 colors)

New maps : ships with the latest TeleAtlas 2006.4 maps, except the UK and Ireland that will have TeleAtlas 2006.7 maps for full coverage of Ireland

Optional "North UP" 2D navigation mode that is especially convenient for pedestrian use to avoid the annoying map rotations due to the limitations of GPS accuracy in urban environments and at low speeds

Navigation to a contact directly from the "Navigate to" menu

Optional "Safety Lock" navigation mode to have quick access to essential features while navigating (Navigate to, Alternative route, day/night, Exit, Sound on/off, 3D on/off)

Overspeed indicator on main roads

Actual Signpost display on freeways

Improved ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival) thanks to the updated TeleAtlas maps (verified in Europe so far)

"Arrival time" feature for a quick view of your progress, late or early in color coded minutes

Navigation to a GPS (latitude/longitude) position

"TomTom Buddy" feature to transmit your position, a destination or a message via GPRS
Pre-installed speedcam database - Europe only
Tunnels shown on the maps with a shaded graphical display
Custom POI categories increased from 39 to 100

Yeah, I found the lock display thing, I just though the overspeed indicator was some sort of beep when you hit a certain speed. I have maps version 650.

Find out the version number of your map with navigator 6?

I am more interested in the quality of the updated maps than the revisions to the software, not because it's perfect, but it certainly does the job of getting me to where I want to go. There are a few roads in my area (one of them a major trunk road improvement) that it is important for me to see in the new maps before committing my pennies.

So, with that in mind, at this time is there any way of checking whether the new maps have the roads I am looking for? I have used the TeleAtlas site for reporting errors etc before but they never respond to my requests for updates. The main issue I have is whether the new A726 Glasgow Southern Orbital (opened March 2005) is on the latest map release.

Adding a daft question, where are all these people who are currently using TT6 getting it? Are they are on a list of beta testers or am I being naive...?

The A726 is on the new map (joins the M77?)

Is that the one?

Thanks hoju, that's the one. It runs from Junction 5 of the (extended) M77 to the junction on the old A726 at the Centre One tax office. If the new road is on the map then it's worth the upgrade price for me for that alone!

It sounds like there's nothing tremendously useful in the new version. And TeleAtlas's maps are at least 4 years out of date (the housing estate I live on has been here for at least 4 years, and the streets are not shown by TeleAtlas, but they are shown by MapQuest).

Has it taken TomTom so long to add so little? I cannot help but be underwhelmed.

Hmm.

"For the first time since TomTom Navigator was launched in Europe in June of 2002, TomTom wil not be offering an upgrade program to existing users."

been using it for the 1st time just now while at my desk

Cannot find an option to make it landscape on my PPC as I could in V5

The Bluetooth is much better, in V5 it would flick back to the bluetooth manager and keep pestering me if it couldn't find the GPS receiver (as I would often load it up to check how far somewhere was etc, without needing GPS), now it doesn't flick back to any screen, just stays in Tomtom

If you don't mind me asking, where did you get v6 from? I thought it wasn't out yet?

TomTom support area was down all weekend, then came back up this morning unchanged!
