Hi All,

I've just tried to load a Canadian map (for use on holiday) onto my i3 using the img2gps utility, the file was created and loaded to the i3. Now on switch on I get a screen saying ' please use the software provided to load maps giving turn by turn route information' I can clear this screen by a long press on the
<-- key BUT when I ask it to navigate to home all the original UK mapping has gone 8O Have I inadvertently overwritten my UK mapping with the Canadian one ? If so how do I get it back ? and no I havent backed it up Rolling Eyes
I'm running firmware 3.0 and audio 2.5

Sorry, I forgot to add that when I ask it to navigate to 'home' (Im at work at the moment which is the last place the unit knows it was) it does appear to know where it is but the only info I get on screen is 'South to M4' My present position is displayed by the triangle but with no road detail appearing. Will a hard reset cure this ?

My i3 has an SD card with it but Im not sure whether the maps loaded to the internal memory or the sd card. I dont have a card reader at work. Assuming I have lost the maps, how do I get them back ? Is contacting Garmin an option ?

the i3 will always know where you are ,but if no mapping is on the i3 it will ,like yours, only show a triangle on blank background....it sounds like you have over written your uk maps on the i3 card...you could contact garmin and plead insanity...if that dont work you will have to pay out for either a replacement card or city select/navigator (search and read forum re software)....

Could you not copy the map from another i3?

in theory the original i3 card although defunk of maps should still have the garmin secure id on it, so possibly copying the mapping onto might work...

Yes, the card still has the POI and Voice files on. I have just used my 25 digit unlock code to unlock the maps but I'm not sure how to download them from the garmin website. Can anyone tell me how ?

what MaFt said is correct
Quote:
doesn't work

the mapping data must match the secure id contained in the secure area on your card(You can't read or even delete this). Therefore someone else's mapp data won't match.

There maybe a plus side, as if you send the card back to Garmin they should be able to check this out and re-instate the map data(they may charge but I would hope not as much as new preloaded card)

RESULT !!

I emailed Garmin Tech Support yesterday and came clean about my stupidity, as a goodwill gesture thay have agreed to re-instate the unit under warranty, all it will cost me is the postage. :D

Good customer service and good PR from Garmin.

It does have to be said, all I ever here is good things from people having dealings with Garmin for support / warranty things.

I decided on a nuvi 300, after a mate had his (4 year old) extrex replaced due to a an accident. They appear to be genuine and not just a faceless corporation bent on making money out of the latest craze.

Quiet refreshing really
