Hi all. First timer here, so be gentle if this has been discussed to death somewhere in the millions of posts on this site Confused I've got a headache from searching......sorry.

I'm looking at getting my first GPS, and am trying to make my mind up between a Garmin Street Pilot c340 (for the v8 maps) and a TomTom Go 710 (not yet released). Every time I think I've made a decision I read all sorts of reports of bad routes on both devices. Back roads and dirt tracks everywhere. On balance, does anyone know which is the more reliable? Or even if there's one that outdoes both of them. My budget is up to £400 (and even then I'll have to hide the receipt from the wife)

Also, which is likely to offer more customisable POIs? I've seen the huge database on MaFt's site for the Garmin, but the one for the truck heights seems to be for TomTom. Would a POI converter allow me to adjust either of these two formats to the other?

Any and all advice welcome with a sigh of relief.

Thanks in advance,

Ian

Urro, I have a 320 and as far as I'm concerned the routing is unusable, not fit for purpose.
On a trip to strange lands, i.e. oop north I build a route in me ould Etrex, like wot I been doing for years.
I’m waiting for V8 in the hope this is addressed, if not Garmin geezers are gonna need some PPE. (personal protection equipment, ear plugs)

I don't know if this is a Navteq problem or a Garmin one but there is definately a problem with the map data.

The roads it is takign are marked as Major Highways when they are probably country lanes. :x

The Navman routing in Scotland can be hit or miss at times, the postcode search is non existent in major places in Glasgow.
