TT910 UK Users First Impressions

Well, that's news to me. So far I have not managed to connect my (mono, non HiFi) BT headset to the GO. I am not talking BT Stereo headphones (imagine how stupid and dangerous that would be in traffic) but plain simple BT headsets.

I haven't tried it myself yet, just quoting from the manual. But I'd be surprised if the BT spec differentiated between standard and hi-fi headsets. Or of course the advertised feature may simply not work.

Hi Richard

I have just looked through the 910's hard drive and cant find the file that you require, or at least cant find anything obvious to point out what it would be. Had a look through the LoquendoTTS directory and nothing i can see there so if you have any ideas on where it would be stored i would be more than happy to send it to you.

The Text is just added as plain text in a text entry box on the POI Screen, there is no special formatting needed, although it seems the Text Engine reads the text back a little fast unless it is formatted with punctuation.

There is another thread here, where it was discussed along with a link to the Loquendo demo engine

Sorry folks, I had wrongly assumed that spoken text could be added to a POI Entry not the POI Category and that a special character was used in the POI name to indicate the start of the message.

At least a spoken message for a category is better than those bings and bongs Smile

And perhaps spoken text for a POI entry will be available in version 7. Wish, wish ;)

Well three days on and the 910 is still surprising me, tried the traffic updates today, a little problematic due to my phone and lack of setup but... The traffic updates along with the text to speech is very nice, its like having your own auto pilot on board. I now have:-

True navigational insctructions that include road names and lane details
Understandable POI, ie BP Garage ahead, Campsite nearby.
Traffic updates that require no interaction as they are now spoken.
SMS messages read to me.

My wife is now having trouble getting a word in, TomTom 'v' The wife

Just checked my Traffic subscription, I had purchase a UK subscription which expired in March. As m last post indicated I thought I'd use the free months trial, but I've just check my subscription and I now have the following:-

Not sure how these have all suddenly become active, also seems a waste as most people will only use traffic in one country at a time.

My TomTom account is still only showing my Navigator V5 product, and my Activate my trial seems to be still active. Has the purchase of the 910 triggered this as all the dates seem to be one month after the purchase date, but not the UK., anyone else noticed this?

As a first time owner of a Sat Nav system, I thought I would give a couple of my own first impressions of the 910.

1. I am impressed, but I have nothing to compare it to.

2. Have already found some map errors, but then I do live in Milton Keynes, which is hardly fair. But, the street we live on shows access from a road that is no longer there and has not been there for almost 3 years. I also found a road where there is a no right turn allowed onto a main road (in London), even though the 910 tells you to turn right, but that is not Tom Tom's fault.

3. I, too, am having mounting bracket problems - the 910 does seem very hard to remove from it and I keep thinking something is going to break. Hopefully, time will sort this out.

4. I love the spoken street names, especially some of the pronunciations.

5. Does anyone have any ideas on screen protection? I am careful, but my wife has long nails that ripped right through the little screen protector that came with the unit. I have used a PDA screen protector that I found at Maplins which seems to be stronger, but the glare is pretty bad.

6. I am way too old to be a kid playing with a new toy, but am loving every minute of it.
