I don't think this study revels anything new. If you takes risks driving by speeding in areas where it's not appropriate then you will attract the attention of the law. In the same vein those drivers are also more likely to take other risks on the road. Those risks will increase the chance of an accident. But surely that's known anyway?

The findings of the Midlands' Drivers' Attitude Study challenge the perception that speed cameras do not catch bad drivers.

Hmm. This is like saying that Burglars and Armed Robbers often speed away from the scene of a crime so Speed Cameras help reduce those crimes because they will get a £30 fine and 3 points, helping get those people off the roads.

involved in a collision

I notice that the TYPE of collision hasn't been mentioned in the conclusions nor whether those drivers were are at fault or not. So someone who was in a collision that wasn't their fault is a bad driver because a few weeks later they were caught speeding.

Makes one wonder who commissioned this report???

It's another case of bad jounalism...... let's get a report and see how we can mash the statistics to make it interesting.

i never believe statistica anyway - too easy to make them say what you want.

a prime example is:

"30% of all accidents are casused by drink driving"
wow, sounds high! let's stop drink driving and save the world.

or, using the same statistics but worded diffferently:

"70% of accidents are caused by sober people"
ooh, maybe we'd be better of drink-driving then?!

MaFt

ps - 87% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Quote:
64% of motorists with penalty points have been involved in a road accident. For those with 4 penalty points the accident figure rises to 72%.
However, for those without points its 46%.

So it appears most people with penalty points are crashing into each other. :P
