PocketGPSWorld.com Announces its 7th FREE GPS Enthusiast and Industry Event in Edinburgh!

Following the huge success of our last event, PocketGPSWorld.com announces our first 'GLOBAL' exhibition. Yes, we know that we have already attracted substantial amounts of overseas visitors to our past events, but this time we plan on spreading the word even further and targeting thousands of GPS/mapping enthusiasts and the industry at large from every corner of the globe... and, thanks to the sponsors that collectively make up the cream of our industry, IT'S FREE!
_______________________

To reserve your FREE places please do the following:
1. Press email expo@PocketGPSWorld.com
2. Include your name
3. The number of people who wish to attend
4. If you are in the GPS Industry please let us know what company you work for, even if you are not attending in an official capacity
5. Please use the forums and not your email for questions or comments

As a courtesy, we will be sending out confirmation emails, but because many large ISPs mistakenly block a lot of legitimate emails thinking they are spam your confirmation email may not be delivered. It may also have been filtered on your computer. If you do not receive a confirmation email, please check your junk/deleted mail folders. Also, please watch for news here on the forums.

That said, everyone that replies before the 31st April are guaranteed a place. Please print this post now as a proof of your invitation and bring it with you on the day.
_______________________

We have had many exhibitor confirmations already including TomTom, Garmin, Route 66, CoPilot, TeleAtlas, Memory-Map, Globalsat, Navman and Nemesis. Two leading Taiwanese companies are confirmed to fly in so far, plus one more waiting in the wings. It looks as if many other countries will be represented including Finland, Germany, France and Holland and we are awaiting confirmation from two North American companies. Retailers easydevices.co.uk, Nemesis, and widget.co.uk have also confirmed.

The PocketGPSWorld.com Event is a “Face-to-Face” forum allowing you to touch and feel the equipment as well as chatting to industry specialists. People from all the over World will be in attendance so we expect to see ALL you Brits on the day - it's a fantastic excuse for a spring weekend in Scotland! For our last event in there were dozens of you who stayed overnight or for the weekend. This time we are expecting 100s. Should be quite a party in the bar at the hotel afterwards. (Mental note: we must warn the hotel!) Wink

We expect to have a large number of national and international manufacturers, suppliers, and retailers exhibiting and, yes, you will be able to buy stuff on the day - often discounted. If you would like to find out how to exhibit, please email exhibitor@pocketgpsworld.com

Centre stage will be the PocketGPSWorld.com car, a motorbike and a pushbike forming our exhibit. This will show how GPS equipment is used in our own vehicles and the lengths we go to in bringing these reviews to our users. We will also be having a workshop area where you can bring your own equipment and we will upload points of interest (POIs) or help with configuration issues. We anticipate having a complete range of knowledge levels from absolute beginners to advanced GPS users.

We received some fantastic feedback from our last event from both our visitors and the GPS companies (ALL of the companies said they would like to sponsor another one). In fact we were victims of our own popularity; the only gripe we heard on the day was that we needed more space. We couldn't agree more! That's why our venue choice is the largest in Edinburgh and can hold up to 3,000 people.

Where is it?
This will be the biggest ever dedicated GPS event in the World - we are hoping to attract well over 2000 visitors. That decision presented us with a big problem; there are not that many places in Edinburgh to hold so many people and, just as importantly, so many cars! After a great deal of investigation we decided on the Edinburgh Corn Exchange, billed as the city's premier venue for conferences.

Edinburgh Corn Exchange
11 Newmarket Road, Edinburgh EH14 1RJ
Tel. +44 (0) 131 477 3500
Fax. +44 (0) 131 443 9022
Email:info@ece.uk.com
http://www.ece.uk.com/

When is it?
Saturday 20th May from 11.00-3.00pm

Our Hosting Sponsor
Based in Edinburgh, GlobalSat UK http://www.globalsat.co.uk with their distributor EasyDevices http://www.easydevices.co.uk have generously offered to be the 'Host' sponsor of the event. GlobalSat UK are an established distributor of PDA and GPS Sat Nav solutions and accessories. Alongside most of the major players in the satellite navigation industry, GlobalSat UK are strong supporters of the PocketGPSWorld.com events.

Why Edinburgh?
Edinburgh has been selected for this event as the Capital city is synonymous with inventive and innovative ideas and developments. As the birthplace of Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone and more recently Dolly the Sheep, the world's first cloned animal, Edinburgh seemed like a natural choice of location to springboard such a global event.

Every guidebook will tell you that Edinburgh is one of the World's greatest cities. Everybody that goes there agrees that it is an unforgettable destination. It has excellent public transport and the Corn Exchange benefits from several bus and train routes. Lothian Region Transport runs a number 35 which stops outside the Corn Exchange and Slateford Train Station (on the Glasgow central line) is a two minute walk from the venue.

There are 1,200 flights from London to Edinburgh International Airport every week (flight time is less than an hour and a half) and 35 airlines serve over 60 destinations As most of you know, some of the deals on flights nowadays are incredibly cheap - so no excuses! Importantly, the venue is less than half an hour from Edinburgh International Airport. A typical journey time to the city centre takes around 25 minutes and the average fare to the city centre is £16. Most taxis are wheelchair accessible.

Direct flights to Edinburgh International Airport include:
Alghero, Alicante, Amsterdam, Arrecife, Barcelona, Belfast City, Belfast International, Billund, Birmingham, Bodrum, Bologna, Bourgas, Brescia, Bristol, Brussels, Cardiff, Chambery, Cologne (Bonn), Copenhagen, Cork, Dalaman, Dublin, East Midlands, Exeter, Faro, Franfurt, Galway, Geneva, Hamburg, Ibiza, Innsbruck, Inverness, Jersey, Kirkwall, Larnaca, Las Palmas, Leeds Bradford, Lerwick, Liverpool, London City, London Gatwick, London Heathrow, London Luton, London Stansted, Madrid, Mahon, Malaga, Manchester, Milan (Malapensa), Moscow (Domodedovo), New York (Newark), Nice, Norwich, Palma, Paris (Charles de Gaulle), Prague, Rome (Fiumicino), Rome, Shetland, Southampton, Stockholm (Arlanda), Stornoway, Tenerife, Toronto, Varna, Wick.

A Call-to-Action!
30,000 of you visit our site every day (a big thank you to all of you!) and I bet a sizeable proportion of you know one or two fellow enthusiasts from outside the UK. This is your chance to set up a meet with them in beautiful Scotland in the spring - how romantic Wink

In fact, as PocketGPSWorld.com continue to expand our offerings globally, already over 30% of our visitors are based outside of the UK and we'd love it if as many of you as possible could fly over to visit us in person! For instance, we know we have a very large following in Taiwan - for those that don't know, the Taiwanese represent a very large proportion of the industry - we would certainly expect a sizeable turnout from that neck of the woods... and most of us are aware of the large European footprint in the industry, but North America now holds a sizeable proportion of growing companies - we would also expect a large turnout from across the pond!

Most of the people that jumped on planes for the last event were Scottish (not so far this time eh guys!), but also included Scandinavians, Dutch, Belgian, Irish, German, French, Americans and Israelis.

Travel Time and Distance by Road:
Edinburgh is conveniently located at the heart of the Scottish motorway network.

From Newcastle 127 miles (about 3 and a half hours)
From Aberdeen 128 miles (about 3 and a half hours)

The Corn Exchange is very easy to find. It is situated approximately 3.6 kilometres (2 miles) to the south west of Edinburgh city centre, within the moat area of the capital. It sits to the south of Gorgie Road (A71) and north of Slateford Road (A70) two of the main arterial routes into the city.

By Train from Manchester - (about 3 and a half hours)

Where do I park?
The venue has it's own car park and there are public car parks nearby for the inevitable overspill. We're not encouraging it, but if you do take a liberty and park in the Asda Supermarket car park next door, please be fair and buy something from them Smile

Where do I stay?

PS. Look out for PocketGPSWorld.com in the media: Media interest in GPS Sat Nav is growing rapidly - PocketGPSWorld.com has been called upon twice to appear on BBC TV News in the last few weeks and Scottish TV have expressed an interest in doing a piece about the Expo for their peak time news at some point prior to the event and may even attend - so put on your best smiles!

I have been to the last three meets and they just keep getting better and better so based on that the next one should be so good that coupled with the long journey I don't think I could manage the excitement and stress Laughing Anyway I hope the rest of you have a very successful day and hope the next one is nearer home or I can plan a break to where it may be held.

I can't seem to get awy from Scotland at the moment. Well if it helps and you like a view over your Scottish breakfast I absolutely recommend the Apex international as the view is amazing. I was there 2 weeks ago and cost me £15 in a cab. Easyjet will be between £60-£90 depending on booking times from Stansted. I remember driving the first time I went took my a while and boy was i tired at the end, if i had more time though and the weather was good i would do it again though its actually very relaxing. Well anyway hope this little bit of info helps.
