Garmin Ltd. has filed a patent-infringement lawsuit against its most visible rival, TomTom Inc.

On Friday at one point shares in Tomtom were down 8% because of the panic selling.

This kind of law suits are always expensive specially in the USA taking a lot of management time.

TomTom infringed on three navigation-related patents. One patent lists Garmin CEO Min Kao as one on the inventors.

Because of Garmin’s longer trading history this is going to be a hard flight for TomTom to defend patents.

Garmin ranks No. 13 on the Kansas City Business Journal's list of area public companies.
