I think the battery is knackered to be honest. Is this a soft reset or a full system reset you get everytime (thus you are having to restore)?

The only time I have to do a full restore (and reset factory setting) is when the battery runs out.

I had a slight problem when I first got mine, the battery "slide lock" on the base would not lock properly and seemed to re-set the unit. I had to remove the battery, re-insert, and then the locking mechanism seemed to be ok.
The only other time was when I was using the original Tom Tom Navigator 5 software when the HX4700 would return to the "today page" and soft reset. This was not a hard re-set though. To cure this I upgraded to Tom Tom Navigator 5.100 (5160). I have not downloaded version 5.2 yet as it seems OK as it is.
Rgds,
Dave.

What software are you running when this occurs?, also what is the battery status indicator showing for both the Main Battery and Backup Battery - it could be a bad connection between the IPAQ and battery, make sure non of the contacts between the two are damaged or bent in any way - Mike

batteries are above 90% and the ipaq does'nt need to be running anything for this to happen.all connections are ok.

Ok - we heard you the first time :D

I think you need to reject the 4700 as defective on arrival. All maufacturers will ship you a replacement unit that may have been another customers' reject in a previous life.

I had my motherboard swapped on my hx4700 after doing a ROM update and now (six months later) I can see they damaged a part of the screen!

Nothing I can do.

Had exactly the same problem as you described. Courier was sent to pick up old 4700 and new one returned within in 3 days.

Seems to be a common fault with 4700 - Rom upgrade screws up (I had same problem & had to send it away to have motherboard replaced as well).
Not suffered from many hard resets though, only had two - 1 accidentally loosened the battery lock clip, 2 software install clashed with other programs.

Other than that no problems since bought 6 months ago
