I am wondering if there is any way of expanding the Post Code facility to use the full postcode? All I can type in is 4 digits under the "Navigate to a postcode option". I have seen references to the Great_Britain.postal file on the TTGo but I have an Ipaq 3970 with TTN 5 and a Transplant GPS sleve.

There seem to be references to a "Zip folder" (whatever that is. I have heard of .zip files but not zip folders) in some discussions but none of it seems to make any sense.

Can anyone help?

The info is avail on lots of posts (excuse the pun), what you need to do is create a folder called tomtom in the root of the SD card, re-insert the map one CD dock the PDA and you should get an option to add postcodes, select that and you should find it all works, when done you should have the zip folder in the root of the SD cards, that contains the GB post code data you need - Mike

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply. Nothing like that vaguely happens. I have options to purchase maps online or install the application, install voice promts but nothing about postcodes.

I tried searching postcodes using the site search but only found reference to TTGo.

you may have an older map/CD version. The Postcodes are only included in the V5 maps (although they technically work with v4 too).

Sallet, I wouldn't give up so easy, your original post stated TTN5 running on an ipaq so it should have full postcode support. I think a degree of confusion has crept in to the thread by your mention of the TTGO etc.

What have you been supplied with, was the software on CD or pre-loaded SD card? - further to this exactly which version are you using, tap the sat strength meter bottom RH to find out - Mike

Hi,

Had another fiddle with this and realised I had not got all of the folders on the memory card, so I copied them all back from the backup I had madeand now it works! The only thing I wonder is why it never worked when I first installed TT5.

Thanks for the encoragement!

I'm afraid I am not having any luck with getting my postcodes to appear despite trying to follow all the good advice above.

If I move the postcodes to My Documents it works fine but I would rather not leave them there because of the memory issues.

I have removed zip and reloaded without any change.

Like Sallet I wonder if have I got all the things in the right place.

On the SD (San Disk 1GB) card I have:

Great Britain Plus Map
Empty Tom Tom folder (createdas suggested)
TT Bluetooth support
TT Contacts Navigation
TT Navigator
TT Voices
zip (containing the postcodes)

I know it should be simple but by heck its frustrating.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well, I'm hardly the expert but this is the layout on my memory card.

In a seperate folder from all of the other maps etc on my CF card and called tomtom5, in the root directory (I tried renaming this and it still worked) is the folder called zip containing the great_britain.postal.

Also included is a folder called tomtom (within the tomtom5 folder). This contains a warning not to remove the folder, a file called data.chk, and tomtom.aid. With those in place and a soft reset, I was able to see the full post codes.

To simplify the directory structure;

CF Card - Great_Britain-map
- tomtom5 - tomtom - _do_not_remove.txt
- DATA.CHK
- TOMTOM.AID
- zip - Great_Britain.postal

It worked for me but I dont know if it will for you.

Sorry, all my spacing went away when I submitted so I hope that the above is decipherable.

I had the EXACT problem with a similar setup: Hx4700, unbrannded (eBay) bluetooth GPS using TTN5 (europe) on a 1gig SD
I contacted TT support over email.
<<RANT ON>>
TT support is VERY DISSAPOINTING!!!!
I first explained that post codes will ONLY work from main memory . The 1st reply was to tell me to put them on the card. so I replied in length taking great care to describe the problem fully and include what I thought to be all relevant info and explained that I didn't want to do a full reset and all the grief it causes for what should be a minor problem. Their solution was a full reset and re-install ARRGH! Why do I bother keeping a backup??.
<<RANT OFF>>
OK, (calm down count to 10) after a bit of messing around I manage to do as Sallet suggests and create the tomtom directory and contents on the root of the card and delete the postcodes (zip) from main memory. It works!!!
I am now goin to try and do the same with the additional voices.
Nice one Sallet !!!!

Steve
