Do you realize that the link to screenshots is not active?

Hi Bobbie, yes I did get your screenshots. I have to say they are not as bad as I was expecting, in fact the visibility of the POIs is not really any worse than my 2610. There will be circumstances where they disappear behind text and so on, but as I've said before, there aren't any other colour options available. I think red is your best option, and just keep the scale set so you get more than one opportunity to see the camera coming up ahead. I can see that the problem would be worse on a bike with the extra vibrations, and having to look down at the screen for as little time as possible.

If you'd like me to put some SPIII screenshots on my webpage, they would be best taken with software rather than a camera. Garmin has a free utility called XImage on their website which will capture screenshots using your normal PC<->GPS connection.

Hi Strumble,

I'm not sure which link you mean. I just checked and it all looks ok to me. Can you be more specific about the page and the link.

Thanks

Hmm, it works ok for me.

Actually, that page is different from all the others in that it has some JavaScript on it. Which browser are you using, and do you have any browser settings which might disable scripting?

Thank you,
The changes you have made means that I can see the 'screenshot' pages.

Hi,

I am keen to use the invisible overlay map on my Garmin Quest to get round the 500 poi limit. I have downloaded the POI Map from:

http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/walterwright

When unzipped I get two .img files to upload. I have a Garmin Quest and Mapsource CitySelect 7.0. Unfortunately I cannot open .img files with this version of Mapsource. Hmmh!

Will I need to use some form of conversion software to open the .img files and save them as .gdb files.

Thankyou in advance

You have to run the installer and then it will appear in the popup menu with City Select

Thanks Skippy,

My fault, I had not looked at the City Select drop down menu. My mindset was fixed on the idea that I needed to open a gdb file.

The Safety Camera Map is now on my Quest. What a superb solution it is. I can have all 7000 camera sites permanently loaded keeping my POI's free for other things.

I have found that if I set the Map Detail to "More" on the Quest the Camera sites are displayed and other POI's hidden. This highlights the camera sites, switching the Map Detail to "Most" brings up the other POI's.
very well thought out, my compliments to Walter Wright.

Wired,

I have to say I found the instructions on using Mapsource a bit sparse, and it took me some time to work out what to do to add your "map" to the list, but I got there in the end! Smile

Any clues ... I have a Streetpilot III - and Mapsource 6.9.1 ---

I can now see Safety Cameras Map on Mapsource but not with my Maps? Is this correct? How do I download to the Streetpilot? Confused

I'm not sure what you mean by "not with my maps". Mapsource can only display one map "set" at a time, it won't overlay them on top of your normal maps such as City Select or City Navigator. But, your GPS will. So what you have to do is download both the City whatever maps and the speed camera maps to your GPS.

1. In the 'Select a Product' dropdown box, select your normal driving maps.
2. Use the 'Map Tool' to select the maps you want in your GPS (click the maps to turn them pink).
3. In the 'Select a Product' dropdown box, select 'SafetyCameras UK/...'
4. Use the 'Map Tool' to select the safety camera area maps you want in your GPS (again, click the maps to turn them pink).
5. Use the 'Send to Device' icon to download the combined map set to your GPS.

Hi Walter

Thanks for the info and your work on the Speed Camera topic.

I have followed your suggestions/instructions and loaded the Speed Camera Map data onto my Garmin iQue M5 and it seems to be OK.

In your articles/posts you said that you can only test on a couple of your own devices. As a way of contribution to your good work, if I can help by Beta'ing anything on my M5 for you, please feel free. I am no expert but can follow instruction and then give feedback. Also, I am not a million miles from you, so that may also be helpful.

Regards.
