Too sad that they dont say what version you get, - to compare, if you want to upgrade your old ones.

I doubt the maps have been updated at all since TomTom5 first went on sale. I think we would have heard about it if they had been.

Here in Scandinavia the maps on the ONE is newer than in other products, - so i sure that they use new maps in this download.

TeleAtlas 2005.2

ONE come with version 605 and older products have 568.

Note that this downloads is ment as an AddOn product, - not for upgrade.

The roumer tells that upgrade for less money for your region-map will be released later.

Yesterday they had the full maps of Western Europe on there but now they've removed them and USA maps have appeared instead.

I downloaded the France map last night. It took a while, but no issues. It appears to be France_Plus - Map v632. I assume this would be the latest version of that particular map?

Someone else here has said that they are updated. As in they have a later version number. Whether they have significant changes enough to warrant paying for them again. I would doubt...

What I would like to see to be able to pay one fee for a map and then be able to download updates for a period of time (e.g. 12 months).

Any more news on the dates for these maps - can't believe they have put them on the web site for sale without dating thing the damn things.

I've emailed tomtom to ask but if anyone knows all ready????

I also think this signals that ttn5 was the "last" version of tomtom navigator (in that from now on we will get updates and possibly upgrades by download and buy the maps in the same way) I doubt whether we will see new versions like before with 8 cd's etc.

I recon more likely that the next version they bring out will be primarily to download online. Who has a PDA and satnav, but not broadband? This way it saves them the cost of boxing up and printing all of their software. I recon that it should all be done lke this now people have quick internet.

More tempting too! Whip out your credit card, and an hour later you're up and running. Bad news for the impulse buyers amongst us, but it doesn't get much more convenient than this.

I wish they would state the version numbers of the maps, and, even in broad terms what the differences are from previous versions so that we can make informed choices about buying replacements.

My UK Map is v562, but I've no idea how old it is, and how many versions there have been since. As stated before, the French map I have just bought is v632, but I don't know what the system is for version numbers. Are all maps now v632, or just the France one?

I think I am unlikely to upgrade my existing maps very often unless there are some radical changes. After all, pre satnav I made do with a ten year old paper road atlas, and I'm not about to buy a new map for the sake of a few new roads which I may or may not ever come across. If I find myself on a new bypass somewhere, that nice Jane person will redirect me anyway.

I guess the differences are more significant for, say, delivery drivers who need to find their way around new housing and industrial estates.

Just noticed this on the UK map :-

Quote:
Includes Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. Also includes Dublin and the major roads of the Republic of Ireland

Dublin doesn't appear to be included in the UK map that comes with TTN5 Sad

Thought I'd give it a go....

Basically once ordered, you get the following information next to "My Plus Services" and "Maps"

Map of Great Britain
productcode: XXXXXXXXXXXXX, version: v632
download size: 209.1 MB, filesize on device: 200.8 MB
You can download this file until: 05-12-2006

You then get instructions.

The version I had is Great_Britain_Plus-Map 5.71

Playing with the TT1 in PC World, there are changes to this map, such as roundabouts are correct around Barnsley etc.

So, this answers a few questions....

You can download the maps again later (Does this include updates too?)
They are a later version
They take an age to download :-)
