Hi there.

New to this!!!! I have Navman 4420 and iPaq and have followed the instructions to the letter with the *.asc and *.bmp files and the Satnav software crashes every time I turn on the 4420. I also tried using the *.csv files following the old instructions. Using both routes the POIs loaded onto the device and then crashed. Taking off these POI files the Satnav works brilliantly.

Also how can I save the POIs to the SD card rather than the memory of the iPaq??

Can anyone help PLEASE ??

You can make the same directory on your storage card (\Navman\MYPOI) and after you have transferred the required POIs to your device in the normal manner, cut and paste them into the new directory. Ensure that the original directory is empty, otherwise I think that only those will be displayed.

Hi Tim

Thanks for the information on copying the POIs to the SD card.

Will this also stop the software from crashing??

Thanks
Rob

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that. Also, any further Custom POIs that you install will install to the MYPOI directory on the device, so you will have to cut and paste them to the directory on the storage card, too. Every month you will have to do this if you use the Camera database and wish to remain current.

Hi Tim

Thanks for the reply. Copying the POIs to the SD card made no difference. On my 30 minute journey home last night the thing crashed about a dozen times with just the GATSO database added (with no Cameras added it worked fine the night before).

I feel that there must be a conflict somewhere between the software and the camera database and am tempted to just keep using my Snooper (but one of the attractions of getting the system in the first place was to stop using the Snooper!) - I am most disappointed !!!!

Has anyone else reported such a problem with SmartST v3 and an iPaq???

Which iPAQ are you using? My 3970 and 5555 have worked fine with V3 and Custom POIs. How much free programme memory do you have? Do you have a lot of other apps installed and are any of them running at the same time as SmartST?

Tim

I have an iPaq 2110 which with nothing running has 29mB of memory. I have no other apps installed other than standard set-up and always close all other apps before running SmartST.

In that case I am stuck for an answer for you. There is another user who has V3 on a 2210 and he uses a Navman BT receiver. Unfortunately I haven't seen him here for ages but I don't think he haad problems such as those you describe....

Hi Tim

Have spoken to Navman this week, with little success. Had already tried all that they suggested, eg copying MYPOI folder to SD card, moving more of the memory to programmes. Their only other suggestion was reinstalling the software - which I tried with no success.
They tell me that they have an HX2110 with camera database on which works OK.
Last night when it kept shutting down I just deleted the MYPOI folder from the PDA and then it worked fine for the rest of the journey. It then got me to thinking if your iPaq works fine is there any chance you could e-mail me the MYPOI folder from your iPaq so that I could copy it onto mine and see if it works??

I will also try the same with Navman.
Hopefully
Rob

Yes, I will email it to you, but I believe that when you install POIs then the Navman POIEditor makes registry entries.

Tim

The supplier offered to take back the Navman and replace it with TomTom Navigator 5.

This works fine.

Thanks for your help.

No worries. Ease of loading Custom POIs is something Navman need to look at, IMV. Why they can't make it a drag and drop progess like TomTom have is beyond me. Crying or Very sad
