Memory card necessary for Garmin?

Does a Garmin 176c have any memory avail. for d/loading maps? Or does it need a memory card before I can d/l anything? I'm new to the gps world.

I don't think the 176/176c has any available memory to download maps into (although I haven't used one, so I may be wrong). The 176/176c comes with a standard basemap installed, but you do have a slot to put a Garmin proprietary data card into, which Garmin sell from 8mb up to 128mb, although I think you might be able to get larger cards now. This would then enable you to load any of the Garmin MapSource BlueChart CD's, or Fishing Hotspots CD's.
