Hi,

First post and moaning already. But first, great forum, been around lots and haven't found as good info as here.

So now I'm in the good books my questions?

I have an Emtac BT and it went goofy just the other day, stopped working as in the Green Light refused to come on. Today it's back working and that's mentioned in case anyone else has the same problem, I do believe it just got too hot, but not 100%. It generally sits in the sunroof gap, hence the hot theory, shame as it gets fantastic signals from there! Any comments would be great?

My only other thought was that the new upgrade TT 2.24 and GPS could have had an effect?

WinFast I've down loaded but can't install. Maybe I'm being thick. The install opens a black window and goes off, very quickly. Running Win XP and cradled Ipaq 39**, Just will not install.

But the real question and hope for an education is on the modes the emtac can run NMEA and SIRF.

I know the updates are quicker in SIRF (also noted people saying they get more beeps, I never get beeps, never had), but anyway Baud ratings and settings would be my question, TT GPS has lots of settings and many of them seem to work was hoping for a this is what you should use answer or should I just play and settle on one?

That's about it, really interested in the settings for communication as that's the bit that makes the difference.

Hope that makes sense. And thanks to all the contributors it's great to find such good info around.

Best regards

Peter,

Dealing with your questions in order.

I have had this lock up twice now with my Emtac. I was able to solve it both times by switching it off and back on again. Neither time was it hot! I have also had the Emtac working for hours when the ambient Temp was 39C sitting for hours on the dash in full sum and it didnt fry so I suspect that in an open sunroof is not a problem

To install winfast copy the .cab file onto the PDA and just tap on it and it will install the application there for you.

SiRF or NMEA interesting question and the answers will vary depending on who you ask. The reality is that for a user it probably wont make too much difference. You can actually set the NMEA to update every second so this doesnt really count in the equation. Many applications currently only use NMEA so SiRF is mute question. TomTom have now sorted out thier issues so it can be used there. I suppose that the main advantaves (as a user) are that the transmitted messages are sent in binary (more compact) format and faster 38400 baud. In theory this means that the processor spends less time on communications reception and more time processing for the application.

There should be no problem using SiRF with your Emtac, but some devices such as the early GlobalSat BT308 can actually fail when switching from NMEA to SiRF and back.

I hope that all makes sense.
