My question is, does anyone know if there is a converter cable for the GPS reciever in the tomtom kit to plug into this usb connector on the mount? Or is the only choice using a navman sleeve with this set up?

Neil,

Dont forget the Bluetooth option. as you have a 3970 you can use it with an Emtac/Socket or the new Fortuna SmartGPS, or the even newer NavMan 4400.

I wanted to get one of these mounts for my Fujitsu Siemens Pocket Loox but unfortunately they don't supply the USB to Serial connection for the Loox. They replied to an email I sent them saying that the unit would work fine with a Loox but I would have to get the USB to Serial connection from somewhere.

Has anybdy got any idea where I could get a short one of these. It would have to be wired differently to the sync cable that Siemens supply because what is required is a power supply to the Loox from the USB connection on the mount (which the sync cable doesn't supply). I'd be willing to buy a sync cable if it is possible to cut it down in length and rewire it to the correct connections. Any help would be appreciated.

My 506 arrived today. I've given it a quick test, but I'll be hitting some motorways on Friday - so I'll see how good the speaker output is. Initial impressions are good, the speaker output is loud (important as I'm running an Ipaq 5450) and the suction is very strong. It can bounce around slightly on less than perfect roads. I'm happy with it so far, mainly due to the speaker output levels.

You can get a Haicom GPS receiver from www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk for £79.99 without having to bid on eBay. Details for the iPaq version here and details for the USB one here.

Ahh right i might order from there then.

I got the mount this morning and it doesn't have the GPS connector on it like that pic. I think i will make a lead to supply power to the mount and just plug the GPS into the ipaq..

Anyone have any opinion on the haicom reciever? is it sirf2 chipset?

thnsks

This looks like a pretty sleek solution. However, is there a mount that I could just drop the iPaq into without having to manually attach any cables? Something that looked and worked more like the ActiveSync cradle with no visible wiring? I'm keen not to clutter the dash with suction cups, vent clips or wires trailing down the footwell.

Cheers

Matt
