I can open the ITN file with both Notes and Word - but only if I do so through an intermediate File Manager programme (current Resco File Explorer on a trial period).

Is it possible to provoke Notes or Word into recognising and opening the files directly? - a registry hack? Or is there a good free file utility out there which does the same job as the Resco prgramme?

Try Total Commander. It's free and fantastic.

If you right click the .itn file you can choose to Open With ..., (your choice of editor).

I´ve tried right-click with my stylus... but with no success. I'll keep on trying. Laughing

By the way of the topic, maybe you could be interested in a beta freeware application developed by a spanish forum user that allows to append a point by its lat/lon coordinates directly to the POI file (TomTom .ov2) that you want. It's name is Geo-OV2 and is pretty small and very easy to use.
My thanks to Serch2, author of such tool.

With it, u could know point coordinates using .itn method and then append it to the POI file of ur interest.

Here is the discussion thread for those who know spanish and here the direct link to the application.

Hope u enjoy it.

P.D.: Remember it's a beta version. If u make use of it, first make a backup copy of the POI file u're going to use. The check box is there in order to append the new entry at the end of the selected file. If unchecked, the file will be overwritten by the new entry.

P.D 2.: please, excuse my english.

OS GPS already does that - its free and works. It also does the same for OS grid as well as lat/long.

Excuse me, I did never hear about OS GPS.

After searching for a while i found it. It seems to be very interesting, so I'll give it a try.

Thx and sorry for any inconvenience.

PostPosted: Tue Jul 05, 2005 12:45 am    Post subject: Favour required on XY co-ordinates ! Where in the world...? Reply with quote

I have received my French holiday destination GPS co-ordinates from the holiday company, but when I create an ITN (as described in this link) file with them in, they appear in amber with a line through them and the option to <Show on Map> is greyed out.

Could someone who knows how, please check for me where the hell in the world these co-ordinates refer to, as I'm sure the XY details are not in France.
Listed below as per their brochure !

Site 1: X: -151200m Y: 5410000m 43:49:58N 1:21:31W
Site 2: X: 1800m Y: 5946300m 47:13:04N 0:00:57E

many thanks !

simply recalculate the lat/lon values into decimal representation and then multiply by 100000

Both locations are in France.
Follow Lutz's advice and you'll create an itn file with these two lines:
Code:
-135861|4383277|Site 1|2|
1583|4721777|Site 2|2|

If they're still disabled, try changing the |2| at the end of each line to other values such as |3|. (|2| works on TT5 for PPC, it was |3| for TT3 on PPC, so |2| is just best guess for TT5 on Palm).

Barryd,

Many thanks for the conversion. I presume you were able to do that via the application for Pocket PC that you wrote. Any chance of a Palm version ( could only see Pocket PC reference on your link !!)

Thanks once again for your help.

Hi there
Yes I did (use my program).
And no I don't (have the first idea about how to port it to other platforms).
Sorry about that!
