Garmin or Navman

I am still in doubt if to buy the Navman icn635 (v3) or the Garmin 2610.
What i am looking fore is a system witch offers me the best mounting solution for using in a car ( I think the Garmin is better on that one for I don't like a window mount ).

But what unit offers the most reliable road performance for showing me the way. The maps from Garmin (Navteq) or Navman with Tele-atlas.
I am not going for the nicest option (2d or 3d mapping) but for the unit that gives me the best performance.

Is there some-one who could help me out?

Garmin's mounting system is reasonably solid. The beanbag mounts are good if you need to move the unit from vehicle to vehicle.

I have not used a Navman, but general opinion seems to be that the Navteq maps are a bit better than the Teleatlas ones. Navteq coverage of Ireland is better if that is important to you.

From what I've seen of other sat nav systems, the routing of the Garmin is better than average although all sat nav systems have their quirks. Be prepared for the occasional odd route!

As for reliability, sat nav systems tend to lose their position fix when they have a poor view of the sky (tall buildings etc). It's really frustrating when your GPS loses it's signal when you are trying to navigate through the narrow streets of central London.

If you do a lot of driving in heavily built-up areas and you are really concerned about reliablilty then consider the Garmin 2650 with Dead Reckoning. This allows the system to calculate your position even when it loses the satelite signal.

I just came back from the best GPS shop in the Netherlands (GPS shop in Notter). They are the best selling shop for Garmin in Holland.

They showed me all there was possible (Magellan roadmate 700 / Navman icn635 and the Garmin 2610).

After more than one hour it was clear for me that the Garmin was the best option to go for me.

I didn't bought it yet, but it won't take long before i do.

Well here's my view - and advice, i have tried garmin-tom tom- medion and navman 510,... had loads of probs with navman, the tomtom go always took me the long way round and told me to turn around when possible when driving down the M1, the medion was not to bad, the navman lockes on to satelites when it feels like it but now gone back to the street pilot 2610, it does every thing asked of it and more (and corectly) ok so it dont have speed cameras but the benefits far outway the gimmics not only that you only have to look at a garmin to see what real quality is all about also the in car mounting is superb as is the software, and the "re-routing" is unbeleivably fast as is the route finding.
