Bought a Mio 168, installed TT 3.07 and UK Map. Left it for a few weeks (ran down the battery first), then turned it on today, and the thing started as new, (i.e. setting up Windows Mobile, doing the screen calibration, etc...).

Obviously the UK map is still on the memory card, but why have I lost TomTom and all my other progs? Is it because I let the battery die and left it for a few weeks?

Thanks,

- Andrew

Hello Andrew

Yes, most if not all PDA's will reset if you let the battery go flat, that is like doing a hard reset.

Once you have loaded all back to your Mio, then just do a FULL backup via the ActiveSync tools menu, only takes a few minutes and then if you should let the battery go flat again then once charged you can then do a restore via ActiveSync, one point you need to know is that before doing a restore you need to make sure that the Regional setting on your Mio are the same as when you backed it up or it will say that the backup file is not correct.

Thanks pocketgps.. it does make sense and I did suspect as much... the odd thing is that I have 2 units. Both were totally drained out of battery and out of action for the same amount of time (over 2 weeks), however only one of them hard reset! The other worked fine... very odd...

One of the reasons they lose their charge is that they don't power off - as you know, the power button only turns off the screen, and if there's any activity within X minutes, the unit doesn't turn itself off. I've found that as I store my units by the window, they will sporadically find and lose a GPS signal (even if TT isn't running), which keeps them 'active' and hence they do not switch off and fully lose their charge. Is there any way around this?

Thanks again,

- Andrew
