The ergonomics of a built in system are much better:

Have you got all of the map segments loaded? If not, the Quest will revert to its built in base map which is far less accurate. I've seen this happen when I've been abroad, and gone outside the city ... |

I don't think you can do it.
I turned off autozoom for this reason. Usually I leave the scale on 0.2 or 0.3 miles, so there is plenty of detail. When I'm on a motorway or major road I'll zoom out a ... |

I can see the places on the map - they're named and I can zoom into them but I can't 'find' them.
Have you tried Find > Cities ?
My experience is that this will find cities in the base map, w ... |

As delivered the Quest will have the Atlantic base map for the whole of Europe. This is fixed so it should still be there (try looking again!!!). It's routable, so can be used for route planning but o ... |

I think the Quest uses a dotted line for an unpaved road too - there are a couple near me shown like this. Does this apply here?
I see the same road as dotted in v7, so I don't think you have an in ... |

They are saved to 'My Locations' - accessed via the Find button. The Quest doesn't call them waypoints in the software. |

This is on the quest. Actually the Quest doesn't use the term waypoint anywhere, though most regular GPS use it to denote the stored locations.
Like I said press Find, then choose 'My Locations'. ... |

You can do this. Enter your coordinates into a waypoint. Open the waypoint page, e.g. Find -> My locations, pick the waypoint and press OK.
Press Menu and choose Show Map :D |

I used the POI converter to import the speed camera db into MapSource, where they appear as waypoints. From here you could upload them into the Quest. You can assign them a symbol, e.g. skull and cros ... |
